UPS delivered my package from A Main Hobbies last night and i finally have the firestorm put back together

Baked and strapped the tires. And gave it some negative camber but i still need to adjust it a bit to they are both the same length on either side

and i also dropped the front and picked up the back. Hopefully it will steer better and have a bit better traction and i can avoid sticking on the wheel weights

thanks red!

I went out of my way this weekend to visit a hobby shop about 40 min away from town but it was worth it. Lots of stuff you dont see in my city. I picked up a tire/wheel combo, ProLine Dirt Hawgs with Black Desperado Wheels. Although those wheels were meant for a Rustler/Stampede/Jato is was nothing a 5/16 Drill bit couldnt fix

wow do these tires sure stick!!!

Waaaaay better than the HPI stocks. My steering and control improved dramatically, but im still going to weigh down the front some more with stick on wheel weights.

I definitely recommend Dirt Hawgs as a MUST HAVE upgrade.

I run them on my storm too, instead of drilling out the hole I just got a set of nice alum traxxas hex's and put them on the storm. Makes the car feel twice as fast eh..lol

beautiful looking storm!

I thought about getting the traxxas hex's and just putting them on but i know for a fact the two LHS wouldnt have them (cuz they never have anything in stock lol) and i was impatient, so drilling it was LOL.

twice as fast is right, im loving it!

I run the same tires on a traxxas wheel. I used blitz aluminum hubs. They aren't very wide but they are a perfect fit. I run them on my savage XS and firestorm as well as the 2.8 inch road rage tires.

Recently bought my son a Firestorm 10HT for Christmas. I was tired of asking him to use it so I went out and bought the 10T Flux. First RC since my Associated RC10 back in the 80's. After running through countless brushed motors, we decided to upgrade him to the Castle Sidewinder SCT combo with the Neu-Castle 1410 3800 kv motor. Read through hundreds of posts before purchasing and knew about the heat issues. I have since placed the fan over the ESC and never have any issues with overheating. However, it is still fairly cool and the 100+ Texas summers are right around the corner. I have a question for you guys that have the Sidewinder...what size pinion seems to work best? I am not looking for loads of torque or any sort of speed record. Just want the motor/esc to run efficient. Right now, we both have the stock 19t pinion. I read some have changed to a Spur from the Blitz, not really interested in doing that, would like to stick with the stock Spur.

Sorry to be long winded, but one more question.....talked to Castle and was informed my 2s lipos are not sufficient, Venom 2s 7.4V, 20C, 5000mAh. He added that Castle's minimum battery spec is 4,500 mah or higher, 30c or higher and 20c batteries are bad news for these systems. So....what batteries have you guys had luck with? Would like to stick with 2S since my son's Sidewinder recommends sticking with 2s. I can run 3s on the 10T Flux but would like to be able to interchange our battery collection.

you should be good with the 20c's you are pushing the batteries i ran a 20c for a while with no issues on my 4600 system, (it was 5000mha as well) i have some 4000mha's that are 40c's and are a lot more powerful, but for a light 2wd stadium truck i wouldn't worry about it... unless your battery is getting hot 120+*f i wouldn't worry or you just want more umph...

for gearing i'd start with a 17 or 18t pinion to be safe and go from there

Bambam,

Welcome, thank you for reading the forum before posting and thanks for the complements on my storm. I ran the SCT with a mamba max pro and ran up to 83/21 on 3s with that motor without heat issues during the hot Ontario summer which is likely a big cooler than your summer. You would be surprised a how much you can increase the gearing with that motor but you would have to. My 4600 setup with 21t /88t (not 87) gearing goes 38mph on 2s and it would be quite a bit slower with a 3800. Try playing with the gearing calculator:

With a 19t pinion the 4600 vs. 3800 motor go from a max speed of 36 to 29 mph, respectively. With a 23t pinion the 3800 goes up to 36 mph. Its a calculator so take it with a grain of salt but its good for comparisons.

I bet you could get up to a 21 or 22t pinion with the stock spur without problems

I run thunder power G4 30C 5000 mAh 3s, G6 65C 4300 mAh 3s and G6 35C 5400 mAh 2s batteries. They cost more but work very well and always stay in balance - I have never had to balance them.

Thanks for the feedback/advice Lug and Nitro Rob. You were spot on with the 19t speed estimates. Wrapped my phone in some adhesive backed bubble wrap, attached it to the car, and used a speedo app. The 3800 came in right @ 29 and the 4600 came in @ 35. I played with the calculator a bit, but I think I am entering incorrect info. I don't get speeds that are in line with what the car is reaching, keep getting speed guesstimates @ 45+. I will keep playing with it. I have a 21t pinion I might throw on the two motors to get an idea of performance/heat differences. Oh yeah, also got a freebie castle link from a buddy that sold his RC collection. He said it was purchased about two months ago. Not sure if I want to start tweaking anything just yet. Again, thanks for all the info.

Thanks again. I had the tire size incorrect, thats where the error was. I put the 21t on the 4600 motor and got it up to 39 (no heat issues). I know I said earlier that I wasn't looking for any type of speed record, but I guess it's a guy thing...the faster it goes, the more I want to tweak and increase the speed. To be honest, 39 mph is good for me. I can't imagine trying to control this car at 50+ like some of you guys are running. I think I have my car about where I want it, time to start working on my sons 3800 setup. Still haven't messed with the Castle Link. I think I will get the gearing where I want it and maybe play with some settings in the future.

39 is a good speed for most stuff. If the truck went 50 you wouldn't spend a lot of time up there.
