You can get by with the stock servo. I've been for some time now but am definately wanting something with more torque. I think it needs more holding power as a bumpy track feels as though it knocks the steering around a bit. Plus I notice the stock servo doesn't have enought power to help my truck get off the pipes when I get hung up. I feel like the steering servo should really be able to push the truck around more. I don't feel like I need to spend a ton of money on a servo though...at my rookie level of experience I don't feel like I need more speed, so I'm thinking the metal gear Hitec HS-645MG or Futaba S3305 at $32.00-$33.00 should be quite reasonable.

Im running a high torque/speed servo and it does help the truck handle cornering much better.

Has any one tried to increase the wheel base as its a feature claimed by HPI.
Well I did .. and its totally changed the way the truck handles.
Coming out of turns, the truck is much faster and lesser spin outs.
The truck would now hesitate to wheely though.
Here is how I did it.
Had to remove virtually everything from the rear of it except the shock towers.

And my ESC would come loose very often .. infact every other impact would result in ESC hanging out or heat sink popping off.
Here is what I did ...
Base of ESC is now velcro instead of double sided tape. This absorbs most of the shock of an impact.
Not to take any more chances of loosing the heat sink [:(], stuck some velcro in battery compartment and side of chasis to form a strap, further holding down the ESC.

I was wondering if you could change the arms like that. Looks like I will be taking mine apart again today. I Its first big race is tomorrow and I want it to haul ass!

I've did that rear arms switching before, but seems like the joints may not be made for such a mod.
In stock form, the front end of the arm joint fits into the truck with a rounded tip, while the rear has a flat surface. Turning the arms around does increase wheelbase, and they do fit OK, but I switch back to stock since I'm not good enough to know the difference in handling, and after noticing the difference in the rounded & flat surfaces.

I just turned mine around and I noticed the little nipple you are talking about. The worst that would happen is the tip of the nipple would rear off and cause a little slop in the rear arm that can easily be fixed with a small spacer. Im going to run it like this and see what it feels like. The arms and tires now sit in the center of the wells on the stock body now too so it looks nicer as well as longer.

heyy guys. i just hit my e-firestorm into a curb at about 20 mph and now, it wont run. i checked all connections and they are fine but you know how when you turn one wheel, the other spins, but the opposite direction? well it does that but when i just roll it on the ground, neither of the back wheels will roll. help please?

Did the motor shift forward and cram the pinion gear into the spur gear? Thats what it sounds like to me.

disassemble the whole rear end and rebuild and see if that helps

Oh I totally agree. I tear my truck down when it is working just fine. I have had my Firestorm apart more times than I have ran it. I find little problems and fix them before they can cause me any unscheduled down time.

That's what I'm thinking too. Diff is probably fine, seems like the bevel gears inside it are working properly. Also I can't imagine anything shifting around inside the transmission.

Stability was never an issue... but I feel its better in a way that from turns, egress is faster. However, for ingress, using drag brakes just before turning gives better steering response.

well guys, who ever said that the pinion gear could be rammed into the spur gear, i cant thank you enough!! thats exactly what it was. i fixed it and its running ok now. does anyone else have a tazer 15t esc in there e-firestorm and run a 5000 nimh or higher batt.? i run that esc and that batt. and i have fried the connector of the esc. on one side of the connector, the plastic is melted. and i dont think im getting all the power i should be. what can i do to fix this problem?

I was running the tazer and a 5000 mah battery and mine started melting too, not in my Firestorm, but thats irrelevant. I ended up having to switch over to the deans ultra plugs and havent had a problem since. I use them for the battery and the motor to ESC connections.

Yeah, the Deans connectors worked flawlessly. I had them on all my batteries even before starting out, some experience buddies suggested I switch thosr bullet plugs and it was good advice.
The only problem occurs with deans is when too much dirt gets onto the connections, there's probably some inteference which causes carbon built up. When that happens the deans connectors gets hot during & after runs, which will be time to scrap & clean those connections.

yeah my firestorm is KILLED. it will not run worth poop because the wires are fried. i guess im gunna have to add however much the deans cost to the $160 i already owe my stepdad [>:] lol. how much will it cost me to get the deans plugs?
