No, I don't think it looks like the 100. Take a look at the two pictures side by side. The 100 is on the left, and the 115 is on the right. The 115's cylinder looks to be a bit shorter than the 100, which means it has a shorter stroke. Since the overall displacement is larger on the 115, that also means it has a larger bore than the 100.

If (and I do mean IF) this is true, it should mean the two engines would perform differently. The lower height would also mean that the 115 will fit entirely inside the cowl of some planes, where the 100 would have to stick out of the same cowl.

In MY opinion, the more Saito models we have, the better off we are! Besides, it is another reason to buy a new engine! [:D]

Hobbsy -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/22/2008 3:48:56 PM)

I just called one of my Buds, Stanley, who works at Apex Hobbies on Saturdays, he has a brand new Horizon Catalogue but no mention of the 1.15. So, to quote Ace Ventura, "I'll just wait longer".

w8ye -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/22/2008 8:05:07 PM)

The 115 uses the piston/valves from the 125 and the carb from the 100.

Following the recent trends by the manufactures of bigger valves and shorter stroke for the displacement/

jvino -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/24/2008 3:01:01 PM)

Any news on release date??

w8ye -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/24/2008 6:27:49 PM)

Horizon will ship them to dealers and you will most likely see them in the LHS showcase before they actually announce in stock availability over the internet.

Pete Bergstrom -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/28/2008 11:10:10 PM)

This engine does combine the piston/cylinder from the FA-125 with a crancase based on the 91. It has the same width as the 91 (3mm smaller than the 100) but has the improved and stronger cam housing and crankcase. We expect these late May or early June.

How about some specs Pete?? Weight would be on top of that list but whatever you have available would be very helpful.

rustypep -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/30/2008 12:56:16 AM)

I am curious about the weight and height. It might be a good option for a 60 Spit if it is shorter than the 1.00.

N1EDM -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/30/2008 8:42:58 AM)

I wonder what the performance differences are between that and the .125. They are pretty close in displacement, so there would have to be some additional kind of incentive to manufacture and produce two engines with displacements this close together.

I could see them trying to upgrade the 100, but I wonder if this will also take the place of the 125? Isn't the 125 a fairly new release in the past couple of years? Seems kind of odd that they would sink all that R&D and tooling money into two engines that could be close together performance-wise.

Just tossing this out...

Bob

FlyingPilgrim -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/30/2008 12:41:46 PM)

I'm with you, Bob. Still scratching my head as to why. Normally I believe the more choices the better, but I am wondering what the benefit of this one is. Time will tell once users have the chance to do side-by-side comparisons. I am also curious about the "improved and stronger cam housing design", as I don't recall anyone having failures in that area. Just my opinion, but I still think the older design of the rounded cam housing looks better (like the .91 etc.). It must allow lighter weight with strength compared to the old design crankcase.

w8ye -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/30/2008 1:56:46 PM)

I've been waiting for the new "92" that has a 125 bore with a 82 crank and smaller crankcase.

N1EDM -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/30/2008 2:27:45 PM)

I think that Ken6PPC might have said it best. Shorter stroke = different performance.. I wonder if the 115 will be optomized for smaller low-pitch props props turning fast, and the 125 for larger high-pitch props turning slower...

Just a thought.

AA5BY -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/30/2008 3:39:52 PM)

Could fuel consumption be at play? The 125 is pretty fuel hungry and at least as far as I'm concerned is getting competition from gassers like the Zenoah G-20 that are encroaching into the top end of the glow zone. I own a Saito 125 and two G-20s. Power is about the same but cost of operation of the G-20 is far less at 5-6 oz of gas per flight compared to 18-22 oz of expensive glow fuel. The G-20 is such a sweet motor and is now selling cheaper than the Saito, is much cheaper to operate, easier to start, and easier to clean up after.

Could the 110 be an attempt at getting back to the Saito reputation for good fuel economy? I've a Saito 30, 50, 56, 90 twin and the 125 and only the 125 seems thirsty.

octanehuffer -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/30/2008 4:05:00 PM)

Regardless of the point, it is good that there more optins for Satio's. The small blocks have always been .10ci apart. The .56, .62, .72, .82, .91, 1.00, 1.15, 1.25
I might try the 1.15 in a Funtana 90

blw -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/30/2008 8:40:33 PM)

My 1.25 sips fuel and is very economical. It sounds like your low speed needle adjustment is too rich. I took out my original fuel tank and put in a 12 oz since it uses so little fuel.

AA5BY -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (3/31/2008 1:39:04 PM)

I will recheck next time out... thanks, I hope you're right.

rustypep -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (4/1/2008 12:31:19 AM)

When is the 92 expected? That sounds interesting as well.

w8ye -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (4/1/2008 12:44:43 AM)

I was just looking at the current trends by the engine manufacturers and the looking at the possible combinations with existing models. Who knows when they will do this to make a 92?

.915356 cubic inches is 15cc

Edit: I made a memory error in the statement quoted in the previous post. The 125 would have to be crossed with the stroke of the 62 engine to become a 92 and it would fall within the 15cc

31.7mm X 19mm = 14.995 cc = 91.505 c.i. or there abouts

Chancho -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (4/10/2008 12:13:57 PM)

I picked up a Saito Catalog from the Horizon booth at Toledo show last weekend. The FA-115 is in there. I didn't even notice it until now.

FA-115/115GK
Displacement: 1.15 cu in
Weight: 20.6 oz w/o muffler
Prop Range: 14x8 - 16x6

I think this engine is an upgrade for the FA-100, offering smaller size than the 100 or 125. The only size relation would be the same mounting width. The only larger dimension is the center of the thrust washer, is 1 mm further out than the FA-100. But the distance from the bottom of the mounting pads to the top of the valve cover bolts is 10mm lower than the FA-100!!!

I think if your looking for a super powered plane in a 40-50 size craft - this would be a nice sleeper under the cowl.

Better yet, if you guys all pitch in and buy me one, I'll test it out for you and post the results.
[:D]

Phil

N1EDM -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (4/12/2008 11:54:35 PM)

Cheese and crackers, Phil, what a swell guy.

Where can I send my $.25? [:D]

Bob

Chancho -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (4/19/2008 2:30:53 AM)

Thanks Bob!

A few more 25 cent donations and I'll be that much closer! [8D]

Looking at this motor and it's specs, it appeals to me - irresistible. Delivery being mid May gives some time to budget in the cash flow for Horizon. I think the motor is a nice fit to their existing product line. It is priced and sized right, between the 100 and 125. For space considerations where you would use a FA100 and not the larger mount and size of an FA125, the FA115 makes all the sense in the world. I'm ready to read about the first break, test and running props. I'm turning a 13x11 APC just fine with a FA100. Is anyone seriously considering the FA115 for a speed application? It reads it can turn a 14x8 - 16x6.... How about a 13x12? I bet if you fit this engine with the prop and just 15% nitro it would blow away a Jett .90 setup on the same plane. (And sound a lot better, too!)

liquid_TR -> RE: New Saito 115 at Horizon (4/19/2008 9:55:54 AM)

A Saito blowing away a Jett?? a jett 90? you kiddin' right? :D
