I've been recovering a 6 year old Rascal110 this winter that was looking pretty shaby. The inside of the cowl was gritty and dirty. So I used denatured alcohol to clean it. It did a good job cleaning. But I have some extra stiffening glass on the inside that is now a bit tacky. In all these years its the first time I actually cleaned the inside of a cowl and didnt consider the epoxy would do this. How do ya'll clean the inside of a cowl?

Alcohol shouldn't affect cured epoxy; Could it be that all the old fuel residue was cleaned out by the alcohol and all that's left is the oil residue? I'm assuming glow fuel was used before, and castor residue can be pretty tenacious.

Try another cleaning in a small area and see if the sticky stuff goes away, or try "painting" a small area with finishing resin after a light sanding, see if it bonds after curing. If it does, I'd just coat the inside with resin, maybe add another layer of 0.75 oz cloth.

If it is oil residue and not uncured epoxy try plain old hot water and dawn dish detergent with a little 409 mixed in to help remove the castor residue. Scrub with an old toothbrush.

I needed to clean a portion of the inside of a cowl to expoxe. What I used as a tool was a electric tooth brush with an old brush attached. It's really works well if you have a small space to get into.

Denatured alcohol will most definately soften up cured epoxy, it is a solvent used to thin epoxy among other things. I use it to remove epoxy from unwanted areas such as covering. I would imagine after a period of time, it will harden back up or re-cure.
