I have a couple of XF421ex transmitters and want to use one as a buddy box. I can't for the life of me find the antenna for one of them. Will I damage the one I use for a buddy box by not having the antenna installed on it? Does the transmitter need some kind of load on the output so as not to harm it? Thanks!

NO!
The buddy box is always "OFF", only the master is on. Try it the other way and 'adios'.

Well, not really, as as soon as you plug in the cord to the buddy box it turns on!

Again, unless you have something VERY unusual it does NOT turn on.

It will operate the master so its pots are active so long as the master trainer switch is activated. If the master trainer switch is released the Buddy Box does zip-----so it is not in any way on!

Are you REAL:LY having difficulty in understanding on and off or is this a 'put on'??

onewasp - propbuster is correct - slave Tx does indeed turn on when you plug in the buudy box cord to it. I've flown buddy boxes several times, and the salve Tx does turn on - at least the screen lights up. I do think it is not necessary to have the antenna in as the slave Tx is not generating any RF.

onewasp, what are you a wise guy? I certainly know the difference between ON and Off and how a buddy box arrangement works. My question that bob1393 understood, was regarding damaging the output circuit of the TX as I know that while it's not going to be transmitting any RF signal, most output circuits need at least a Dummy load on them. Seeing as the JR system is different than say a Futaba which doesn't even need a battery, and the JR needs a battery and seems to turn on with the cord attached, there arose my concern regarding not having the antenna with it. bob1393, thanks for your input!

The buddy box doesnot emit a RF Signal...when you plug in the trainer cord....it activates the encoder only...the Buddy Box transmitter switch is in the OFF position.
The same thing happens when you plug in the DSC cord into the transmitter and the other end into the charge plug..(be sure you are using a JR 3 line switch),
you can setup your model without turning the Transmitter on..

I do hope that this will help...
