I have a Savage and my brother bought himself a Tmaxx. It has almost one gallon. I don't know much about Tmaxx's so I thought I'd get some help here.

Here's the problem: The truck starts fine, the motor revs fine, but when I give it throttle, it seems like there is a stripped gear somewhere and the truck will catch occasionally and jump forward only a few inches. I took the transmission apart and all seemed fine. The spur gear is fine. When the motor is idleing, the clutch is enganged and the spur gear spins (I don't know if the spur gear is supposed to be spinning on the Tmaxx while only idling). Anyways, I'm not sure what the prolem is. I don't know how the transmission works in a Tmaxx. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it's a 3.3 it has an opti drive when and if the batteries are low enough in the truck it has a built in fail safe and wont engage, try and recharge the battery in the truck and then see if it works, I was out today doing a little tuning to my T-Maxx 3.3 and close to the end of the tank of gas, it would catch then stop I give it throttle and it wouldn't move then it would catch again, so I recharged the battery and it was fine.

is the slipper clutch to loose?
the drive hub could be shot, its kinda like a clutch. it engages your forward gears.

It is the 2.5. Is the spur gear supposed to spin while idling? My savage spur gear only spins when the clutch is engaged. I might try to post a video so you can see what I mean. It is hard to describe what it is doing. It might be something like nitro stan suggested but like I said, I know very little about Traxxas.

I don't think it's the clutch, I think it's something inside the transmission. tomorrow i'll try to get a picture or video posted.

This happened to my brothers revo. You can give it throttle and it will dust sit there and rev right? At least that is what my brothers did. We had to take it to our LHS and they said that the diff was stripped. Shure enough when we tore it down all of the gears in the diff were stripped, front and back. Cost him like 40 bucks to fix both.

Hope that helps

Ok-I took 3 short videos of the Tmaxx. When the truck is idling/taking off, it is really jumpy. Like it wants to take off but something is catching.
Here's the first video. I know the linkage is wrong so I adjusted it, but this video just gets you an idea of how it is idling: http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb261/dustrado/?action=view¤t=MOV00460.flv

This one it is just sitting in the grass and you can see it kinda jumpy: http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb261/dustrado/?action=view¤t=MOV00463.flv

And the last one you can see it accelerate (just about hit my dog! hard to steer and give throttle with one hand.): http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb261/dustrado/?action=view¤t=MOV00464.flv

Let me know if the links don't work or if there are any problems with the videos.

That looks normal to me. The transmissions internal clutches are bad about making the T-Maxx's jerky. If you wanted to eliminate it all together, a forward only conversion will get rid of the jerkyness. But then you dont have reverse. Lower the idle just a smidgen and the jerking at idle should stop. It looked normal to me other than that.
