I think one of the most unique aspect of this chassis is the center tranny... !

Info from Tamiya USA: "Planetary gearbox comes with20T pinion gear for a 40.5:1 gear ratio. Separately available 16T-25T pinion gears can be installed for gear ratios ranging from50.6:1 to 32.4:1."

The manual for the kit can be found on the link at Tamiya USA posted above. The tranny will be interesting. The axles also contain full diff if you decide to run it w/ open diff. A pin can be installed in to lock it fully. Similar to those found in the Hi-Lift series.

I have been around.. go check the Super Clod Buster thread.. LOL!! I built one of those recently... so now I am looking for a new project... and the new CR-01 is very interesting from the design point of view so I figured that I'd give it a try and share my findings with others here. Hopefully many others will be joining in by getting the kit as well!

Cool. Looking forward to see you build this one. Suspension looks a bit fragile, but maybe crawling isn't such a big strain?

Don't think it is meant to do jumps and stuff.... going slow on this thing.. ha!

Also, Tamiya plastic are generally pretty tough.. so I am not gonna worry about..

No doubt this thing will have plenty of aftermarket following!

Suspension setups for crawling have to be articulate and precise, not necessarily super beefy. It's not there to absorb massive impacts as much as its there to distribute the 4 wheels over awkward terrain.

I think I am going to go w/ a stick radio on this rig...

2.4GHz 6EXA then.. why not... LOL!

7-ch RX w/ dual antenna seems overkill......

Initially I will run front wheel steering only.. but if I end up doing a rear steer.. maybe I will do an independent rear steer..

Did you buy the radio already? I think the dx7 has 3 position toggles which might come in handy for things like winches. Of course it is more pricey.

I need to bring it to some test station to get it checked... Futaba goofed w/ some of its 6EXAs.. ha!

I should have known. LB is getting a new rig so he must have had upgrades and parts sitting around for it for the past 3 months

Only 3 months?! Gosh, I am being underestimated... (joke)

I had it for awhile, was going to see if I can rig it up to work w/ my 3-speed / tank.. but been too lazy to do so.. so I thought that it would work well w/ a slow rig like this...

I grew up driving RCs using dual sticks.. so this should bring back some memory! (although current I do have the 4EXA on the Aeromax and M-B 1850L, they are rarely being used.. oh yeah, the M-B is not even finished yet.. )

LB:

You ALREADY have on on order. I thought that Tamiya shipped to you direct. I think I saw on the Tamiya USA site a seperate login for LB and some writing about thanks for all your money.

Actually - I am getting it too. Can't wait to build.

We'll see who's looks better.
