that pinching tecnic is of course just one way of making sure its not to lean..
if you have a cowling that you do not get acces to the fuel line, you can of course use a tac-meter to adjust the engine to a little less than max rpm,
or just juse your ear: adjust to you get it to peak rpm then a little richer, so it drops a little in rpms then you fly it.
or if you have any other methods, just use them.
I have just listed a few.

The point I am making is that you have to learn how to proper adjust a engine if you want it to last and perform well.
and if you adjust the engine properly, you dont need any castor, cause it dont get that hot that castor does any better lubing than a good synth.
cause it wont overheat to extreme temps like they who say that fuel should contain castor oil uses as example.

But of course if someone wanna use castor its not wrong doing so, everyone has to use what they feel work, but if the reason for castor use is to protect the engine from hi temps, and lean run, then I am saying that you is better of adjusting it right so you dont overheat it and let it work in a way it is "happy" with.

I allways hear someone say that castor is much better than synt oils on LEAN runs and glowing hot engines.
BUT... first of all, you should not run your engine too lean!

aggreed?

I guess you could also say that some people say seatbelts and airbags are a good idea BUT... first of all, you should not crash your car!

agreed?

Austis you are correct that people should learn to tune their engines correctly but sometimes accidents or unforseen events happen that can cause an engine to run lean in the air, even after being tuned perfectly on the ground.

And not all people have a good enough ear to tell when an engine has started running lean in the air.

A little castor will give you the same kind of insurance as seatbelts and airbags. Drive/tune properly and you will probably never need that insurance BUT... if something does go wrong it's very nice to know that your odds of survival are significantly increased.

Agreed?

Hi all,
Is there an allround glow fuel? The reason being, is, i`m new to the I.C. world and I hear of so many makes with different ingredients in them. Also can you use the same fuel for 2-strokes and 4-strokes?

Many thanks Nige.

Nige,
I will try to answer your question the best I can.
Yes, you can use the same fuel for two and four strokes, if both engines are happy with the same nitro content.
If you have modern ball bearing engines, my advise to you would be to see what the local club members are running in the engine types you own and buy the fuel that they use. Lets say you have a modern Thunder Tiger two stroke and a modern ASP 4-stroke. The thunder tigers will run very well on most fuels between 5% nitro and 20% nitro. The ASP will run fine on 10% to 20%. My advise considering those two makes would be to buy a gallon of 10% and go fly both of them.

You will find that most modern sport two strokes will run fine on 5% or more, and a few 4 strokes will too. However most four strokes on the market today can be tuned to be quite happy with 10% fuel and up. It realy becomes your choice at that point what you want to spend on fuel.
I would see what the local club members are using (or making) and get their advise to finalize your decision.

You will get an infinate number of opinions here in these forums and none of the posts intend ill will on this subject. Just remember that there is no truly bad brands of fuel on the market (otherwise they would be out of business long ago), just bad choices made in what fuel modelers put in what engine.

Austis -> RE: Allround Glow Fuel? (4/7/2008 5:04:25 PM)

the most used all round fuel in norway is 15%nitro and 15%synth oil.
that can be used from almost any engine.
But it requires a good oil, or else you need a few %extra.
but as an allround fuel, 15%nitro is very good.
But as the one before me sayed, 10% nitro is also a good choice.
There is a sligt difference in cost of course, so if you go for 10%or 15% is more what you wanna pay.
but 10-15%nitro and 15-18%oil can be used in almost everything.
