cheap 1500 battery = 10-15$
cheap esc for stock motor (LRP or Novak) = 50$
AM radio system = XR2 99$
stock motor = 25$

these are guestimates.. i might have forgot something not sure.

Good guesstimates on all but the radio and ESC. The XR2 is the highest tech AM radio available. But yes it is good.

The base models by JR, Hitec, Airtronics, Futaba can all be had for less than 45 dollars. And will work just fine for all but serious racing. The stock servo they come with can be used on the XX4 also and work good. My friend has a XX4 with the stock Futaba servo (S148) and his car handles very well.

And ESCs for stock motors can be had for as little as 35 dollars at www.towerhobbies.com and www.hobbypeople.net

These are my recommendations if you are trying to run on the inexpensive side of things.

Thanks for the info and replies....

slightly separate question... How specific is the equipment for the cars? ie, would equipment from a Losi XXX buggy or XXXT truck be transferrable to a 4wd buggy like the XX4? and if so, would you need anything extra to go from the 2wd to 4wd?
