I am deciding on a decent air compressor for using an Iwata airbrush I plan on buying (the CR). Now because I am not 100% sure airbrushing is right for me I would like to set my budet for an air compressor at 150 dollars.

I also would like a quiet one that I can use in my house at late hours without waking anyone up. It is my understanding that a compressor capable of 40 psi is sufficient for pretty much any type of paint job.

Now although it is at my budget, it there are any comparable options at a lower cost please let me know. Thanks in advance...

Status: offline 		I use a 1 gallon oiless finishing nail gun compressor for my airbrushing...got it on sale at the hardware store for $50 and it works like a champ. And its not too loud, just get ya a good moisture trap. plus it can pull double duty

Status: offline 		I have both a Silent Air 50 compressor and a 3 gal. Oiless compressor. When my Silent air was being serviced, i got an Oiless one. Belive me when i say, I could not paint at night due to the neighbors. It was pretty loud, loud compared to my Silent Air. Its only 20 lbs and quiet. If Coast sold this compressor, i would have jumped on it. I have been a friend of Dave at Coast since '96 and i do not belive in taking business away from him, but he he carried that compressor, i do believe he would sell so many to the hobby industry. BTW...it goes for about $109 at Amazon

Status: offline 		I am also looking for an air compressor. I am willing to spend $200-&300 for a fairly quiet one. I have seen some "quiet" compressors with 4-6 gallon tanks (these are quite expensive) and some with 1 gallon or less. Is it better to have a compressor with a larger tank or would a compressor with a 1 gallon tank work fine? Any suggestions and/or recommendations will be much appreciated.

Status: offline 		for airbrushing a 1 gallon tank is fine. that PC1010 compressor is being used by finsh carpenters all over the country so it's seen some long run times and many months and years of service if it had any issues they would have surfaced by now in the hundreds if reviews that are on the web about this compressor.

Now a bigger tank would be nice but it is not really a required. the bigger the tank the bigger the compressor needs to be inorder to fill it within a resonable time frame, other wise you end up shortening the life of the compressor motor and developing a lot of condensation in the tank.
