I don't know much about battery management, so forgive me if these questions have been asked before. I have several NiMH batteries that have sat unused for 12-18 months. I've heard that these packs can be revived by cycling them several times. Prior to storage, the packs were cycled and charged, using an Ace Digipace. Discharge rate was set at 300 mAh, charge rate was 120 mAh. I planned to use the packs, but didn't.

These packs produce 4.8v on the ESV today, after an overnight charge, but have short endurance on the Digipace, relative to stated capacity. Can they be revived safely? I have two packs, with stated capacity 1100 mAh, which only lasted 38 and 82 minutes under the 300 mAh load. If the output is 4.8v today, doesn't that rule out a "bad cell"?

A third pack seemed to be fine: 300 minutes on the Digipace, or 5h * 300mA = 1500 mAh, stated capacity 1650. A fourth one with stated capacity 2500 (!) lasted 99 minutes on the first pass, 175 minutes the next time. Given the stated capacity and the discharge/charge rates I'm using, should I expect to get close to 500 minutes on the Digipace out of the fourth pack? Should I run another cycle on this pack?

Can any harm come from cycling NiMH packs over and over? How many times would you expect to cycle them, before knowing that they are okay or not?
