Here is my mini wild thing mono that i made out of balsa. I am sealing it now and will soon be building hardware for it. It will have a 1/32 wire drive and a stinger(non adjustable)strut. It will be powered by a GWS 400 motor and 6-cells nimh. Hope you all enjoy.

How should i get the pinion of my 400 motor. IT cames with a 400 gearbox for my e-starter and id like to use the motor for my boat. oooo, and yes i will be getting a graupner motr, prolly the 6V one. Unless someone says otherwise

Wild Thing's looking good - i wanna build me one of those at some point. Now as regards the pinion, you can either dremel it off, after having masked over the motor (you dont' wanna get grit inside), otherwise use the pinion gear puller (cool thing to have, though i'd just dremel it off - how often are you gonna use a pinion gear puller really?).

Now as regards the graupner speed 400 - i have one, and quite honestly at 6v it's nothing to write home about. Not even at 9.6v quite frankly. If you want a lively, skittish boat, without going brushless, i'd try to get a speed 480, or a small hot motor. I have a 400 modified motor from simprop and a 480 cobalt which on 2s lipo are enough to keep you on your toes, but if it's the joy of build you're after, keep the 400motor from the e-starter and don't bother with the graupner one.

Ya well i wil go brushless eventually but i wanted just 15-20mph. I could get the 400 race thats for 4.8v or st like that but i dont know if itll spin my x427

my guess is that it would, no problem - but maybe someone can confirm, as i'm not too familiar with the octura prop chart, as i only use the metric CF props. the speed 400 7.2 volts spins graupner k props up to 33mm without too much of a fuss (provided you keep your all up wieght to around 550 grams). Any more pics of the build?

Looking really good there. I finished my 26" version last year and it is a fantastic hull.
It looks as though the propshaft angle is reasonably neutral, I have a similar setup and it works very well. You may have to introduce some trim tabs to it if you plan on running it nice and dry as it does like to run that way and is surprisingly stable at speed(was an absolute pig without them). It has been my intention to build one of the smaller versions as well, I just need to find some spare time. It will probably be powered by an outrunner and lipos.

That boat runs very well. The thing is i want this to run as loose as possible for more speed. Ill make a bigger one soon to. Prolly powered by a feigao 9L on 12 cells on a 100A H-wing Pentium ESC(cheapo kind). Shold run mid 40s at least

Believe it or not, half of my 26 is balsa, I skinned it in the planking though for a bit of strength but kept the weight down in the process.
The hull itself is 2mm ply as are the bulkheads. It loves to run on the edge and is prone to blowovers if you move too much weight towards the stern. On the back straight in my vid, it gets enough speed up that when I go past the point of land, if there is a cross wind blowing, it will literally take off right there. Happens quite frequently. Looks good though. Bring on the Wild Thing revolution!!!!!

Nice work. It is good to make your own hardware, not only is it fun but it greatly reduces the cost of your bits too.

allout - things sure are moving aye? good! Dee, the hardware's great. Are you using a pop-rivet sleeve for the water exit? i do that too, and use them as well for the rudder wire - you put it in from the inside and zip-tie rubber bellows to the sleeve where it comes out - so it looks cool and works too ;-)

Now i to the sealing part so this will take a while. It says recoat afer 4-6 hours so i may do it on sat. where i have more time, until then im at a standstill. Do you guys know what cheap batterys i can use until i order my lipos? I could use 4-AA rechargeables but that would be slow and heavy. Maybe 6(itll sink i bet)

i've tried that already....no go i'm afraid. Something i've always wanted to try and never really got round to doing was trying the 9v blocks - you know the ones that shock your tongue if you lick them to check whether they're still fully charged? (i used to do that as a kid not now......)

I think those 9v rechargeables would work but i woul need 2 in parrallel. I think there only like 150mah tho, ill look around

that was quick. I've been seeing these kinda cells on the UH website, and never really gave them much thought - but they seem perfect for your application. two in series should give you enough juice for a small brushed motor and a light boat...the price is right too

oh and yes - forgot to say - re hardware....you can make a cool looking rudder stem from old windscreen wipers...will try take a pic tomorrow..(or maybe you can see it on my profile pics - on the tiny boat in the 3 monos pic)
