Tower Hobbies latest email included a list of the TOP 25 BEST SELLING ITEMS. At the top of the list was RealFlight G4.

Now there's irrefutable proof that G4 is bigtime popular.

BTW, below it on the list was the OS46AX which is hugely popular at the 3 flying fields I frequent. And also down the list is G3.5 at it's discounted price of $160. Heck, not only has G4 NOT fizzled, but neither has G3.5.

When I was in sales years ago, some of the things that was high profit an not selling to well was put on our best selling list. It always helped sales of those things...

Ronnie

Yep, that was common practice in two of the companies that I used to work for back in the 80's. Given the fact that Tower is part of the Hobbico empire it only makes sense that they'd be following corporate direction to increase sales on their slow moving items.

As for the OS 46AX, I don't know of anyone who's bought one of those since the OS 55AX came out ... Same mounting dimensions, only 1.2 oz heavier and tons more power.

So, if you take the irrefutable proof - everyone is moving to the new technology in flight sims but not in engines<?>

And, by the way, why are they still marketing and selling a product (G3.5) that is "unsupported" according to the president of the company that produces it:

"When a product is "supported" then future patches are possible. I can't say whether there will be any for G3.5. I also can't say whether there will be any for G4. We never discuss future releases.

But no one from KE or Great Planes has ever announced end of support for G3.5.

Jim"

Yep, no one from Great Planes or KnifeEdge has "announced" end of support for G3.5. G3.5 hasn't seen an update, patch, etc since Sept. 2007. Whereas G4 has seen 6 updates and an Expansion Pack compatible with G4 only. Maybe it's just me but I see G3.5 as "unsupported" based on Jim Bourke's comments - even if they haven't "announced" it. I don't mean to take anything away from G3.5 It's a very good sim, with 4 Expansion Packs and 5 Add-ons to it's favor. But, why keep selling and marketing it if you never plan to fix any of the existing (minor) bugs and issues that it has? And you've since produced it's "replacement"? It just seems to me that you either continue support for it, or you drop it from the marketplace. Of course, that's just my opinion...

Jeez, what great marketing.

The guys who couldn't market the product decided the way to get their stuff to sell was to lie about it. No wonder some marketing guys go into blue collar jobs.

As for the argument that the Tower list is a lie................ Sounds possible except for one thing.

Personal observation proves otherwise.
The latest new engines to show up at the field were 46AXs and 55AXs. Not sure if ANY other engine than OS46/55s other than a DA100 and a couple of OS75AXs showed up new since Christmas. And a TON of 46/55s have shown up. So they're telling the truth about the engines. And from Christmas to now, the only sim I've heard about at the field were the 4 new G4s.

Yeah, the only problem with the "they are lying" theory is that it doesn't appear to be true.

It looks like Tower's list of best sellers are in fact best sellers.

You believe that the Tower list is irrefutable - because of personal observations. It just so happens that my personal observations refute that conclusion.

I belong to two clubs, one with a membership of 116 and one with a membership of 75. I haven't heard of, or talked to, anyone who has purchased G4. I know of one person who has purchased an OS 46AX and 3 people who have purchased OS 55AX's in the past 3 months. I know of at least 6 people who own G3.5 and have stated that they do not plan to "upgrade" to G4.

It's a fact that companies distort their sales figures and is actually quite common. No one in the Hobbico Empire publishes sales figures. Not Great Planes, RealFight, OS or even Hobbico themselves. So, there's no way to verify the information that Tower has released. Making it quite easy for them to distort their figures. Neither you nor I know whether or not the list that was published by Tower is accurate. Making it anything but irrefutable...

Nah, my observations are as irrefutable as refutable can be IR-ed. What I saw is what I saw. And it backs the list. Matter of fact, so does both LHSs in the area. They both have stacks of 46AXs on their counters right up front because they move so fast. And Tower's counts probably include the indirect sales as well. One LHS owner said the 46 sales have been so good for so long he was worried when the 55 came out. And said he keeps the stack on the counter so they don't have to keep stacking them inside the display case and then having to go in to get them. But I got no way to prove if that's a lie or not.

Guess it simply comes down to trust. You're right, no way to prove their advertising is truthful and by the same token no way to prove untruthful.
