Status: offline 		It is a good idea, but I can't take credit for it. I found it in this forum. If you go to the "1/8 scale TopFlite Corsair mods" you can find a world of goodies to use on your bird. I'm using many of the mods on my Corsair.

Status: offline 		Well I back. We had bad storms here last PM. 69 mph on the home weater station with marble sized hail and 2.75 inches of rain. Spring in Texas. Got the retract air cylindar and air valve mounted and tested. The fill valve has a slight leak but worked enough to test everything. Never fails. Will try to finsh rest of fuse and wing. Where are ya'll going to mount your fill valve?

Status: offline 		I mounted mine on the bottom of the fuse behind the firewall. (That location where those 3 round thingies are on an F4U-1. I haven't figured out what they were for, but this was convenient location to try and keep the plane "scale-like." I went ahead and got the onboard air pressure gauge and mounted it through the firewall, so I can be sure and check it when fueling and servicing the engine. I cut my cowl so that the top half of the center section is removable (for access to glow plug, carb, fueling, engine starting, etc.). It is reinforced and held in place with rare earth magnets for now, but I may go with a more positive latch system. Time will tell. I will also mount a remote fueling valve in the engine compartment.

Status: offline 		I used the robarts. i hope they hold up. some people in these threads state they seem to buckle in not so soft landings which I seem to have at times.

Status: offline 		I finally got back at it. I got the pull pull system on the landing gear. Works great. The slack when the gear retracts came out and the wire became taught. I am going to finish the bottom of the wing and attempt to glass over the retract area of the wing to make my gear doors. i am going to try the saran wrap trick under the glass. How many layers of glass do you use to make the doors and what size glass? Do you put down each layer and let it dry and sand before adding the next layer?

Status: offline 		I'd recommend Monokote rather than Saran wrap. You'll get a much cleaner result. I don't often know what weight glass I'm using for routine layups. For gear doors, I use about 4 layers of the generic stuff at Home Depot. No need to sand in between. You should be able to lay it up in one session by wetting out about 2 layers at a time. You can overlay additional layers while the underlying ones are still tacky. Finish with a layer of .75 for a cleaner finish.

Status: offline 		What is the consensus on the internal linkages? My "well worn" corsair has perhaps 100 plus flights. The rudder and elevator control surfaces have quite a bit of flex and play. Plane still flies okay this way, but someone looking over the plane suggested I fix them before flying. Anyone else have this experience and know of an easy fix?

Status: offline 		I layed up my gear doors about a week ago. SMUgator is right about using Monokote. I used the Saran wrap method. Lots of sanding after I finished, but I finally got them like I wanted them. Mistral, be sure and make some extras. If you plan on making removable pieces around the front door that fits on the gear strut (for future gear removal for servicing), the extra layups may come in handy. If you have a better method of cutting out the pieces than I had, you may not need the extras.[)] I used a Dremel with a cut-off wheel.

One little tip that I learned by accident is that if you cover the wing with Monokote and then trace the outline of the gear doors on the monokote with a fine Sharpie pen, then the outline will transfer nicely to the glassed overlay as the resin will absorb the ink from the Sharpie. Good luck with it.

Status: offline 		I haven't bought the RCV yet. I'm putting it off until I finish the wing. I am going with the scale hinging method. Out at the wing tips where the ailerons taper to such a small cross section makes me a little nervous. I think I will have to be very careful working out there.
On another thread, Juice is having a 1/8 scale Hamilton Standard Hub CNC'd. It's made specifically for the RCV engine. He's got me foaming at the mouth for one! The hub accepts Soloprop blades and looks so close to the full scale hub it's scary. It's pricey, but really looks nice.
