Hello , having a strange problem with our new YS-63. Have about 10 flts on it now and on the last 2 ,it will be running fine then just go very rich and loose most of the power ! Never had an eng do this in my 40 or so yrs of modeling. I thought maybe the main needle was moving out some , but it is not. Now running a wood Rev-Up 13x5 and it seems to love it when running well.
Also , the low end needle is very rich no matter how far out I turn it ?? ( yes you turn the low end out on a YS for lean) Sure appreciate any good suggestions. Thanks much, Rod

I don't think 13x5 is enough prop for the YS 63. Are you sure you are running rich and not leaning out? Sounds like your engine is overheating and thus losing power. You might want to keep your RPM at 11,500 max. I run Graupner 12x7 on both of my YS 63's at around 11,200 RPM. Other people are using 13x6 prop with great results.

I mounted mine inverted, and my low end needle is backed out flushed with the engine casing. My low end was pretty rich too, and the idle didn't settle down until after a gallon has gone through it.

My YS91AC had a similar problem. It would richen and lean on its own from time to time. The (broken) gaskets where causing the problem. I dissasembled the engine after landing in a swamp and didn't notice two gaskets were cracked. If the engine losses compression around the head and the backplate it would tend to do the same. Also for bad alignment in the pushrod tubes o-rings.
