where is the best place to buy one?

Ebay, if not try towerhobbies.com

Tower has $20 off with the coupons on their front page (anything over $150 really)
ultimatehobbies sells them for $140, which is still $40 less than tower after coupon.

I would suggest to get atleast a 3600mah NIMH battery that has been proffessionally built by someone like cheapbatterypacks.com, I have also seen a guy on ebay selling 4200 mah cells that have been proffessionaly built. When I say proffessionally, I mean built with battery bars that have been soldered on and 12awg wire and prefferably with deans plugs. Most low quality batteries have been built with those thin metal strips and they are spot welded. There is alot of resistance in those connections and they often break loose.
The charger you are using can also make all the difference in the world. You want something that can at least charge up to 3.5 amps. Other wise you might not be getting a full charge. Trickle charge is good but I have some batteries that won't peak right if I don't use a higher charge rate.
I have the duratrax Ice and two Duratrax Intelipeak Twin pulse chargers.

Alright, good advice thanks!

Im using a Swallow V2 charger ATM and its a GOOD charger!

Ill have a good shop around for a good battery pack, so cheap battery packs would be the cheapest? what about somthing like maxamps?

As for the motors, since you are not upgrading the esc because you are going brushless later, I would say either of the 19T motors are fine.
The Intellect batteries are good, you need to make sure you buy the stick end to end pack, not the side by side pack. I don't think the side by side pack will fit. I will check out a side by side pack that I have later.

If you buy a motor and two batterypacks, you are well on your way to a brushless system. Why don't you just save up and get the brushless system. I don't think you will be that happy with a 19T motor

Thanks for the advice!

I would go with somthing like a 13T motor but the ESC is rated for 19T or more. The sub C cells are equal in the way that two of them side by side are the same width as one of their lenghts. Does that make sence? its the same with the 2/3AA Baterys used in minis.

Yeh, well ill forget the motor, but im going to need a new battery pack eventually so ill get them for now... i just need to choose one...

BTW, i just remembered, the CC BL systems are brushed compatible, with unlimited T, so if i get the BL system and ever change my mind...

If the side by side sub C's are put together with quality battery bars the are a good bit wider. I have learned this lesson in other cars of mine.
Good idea, get the batteries for now, and the esc when you are ready. There is not a huge difference in the price of brusless or modified quality brushed motors. The big difference in price is the esc.

Yeh, ive notised that, that is why i was hesitant. The sidewinder is a cheap BL ESC that can support brushed, so ill be getting the best of both worlds!

There may be a cheaper alternative. I'm actually purchasing this for a homemade off road racer using crawler axles/chassis (shh!), but I MAY give it a go in the cen.

The sidewinder 1/10 speed controller is only $70 on b-p-p
http://www.b-p-p.com/products.php?cat=40

I'm going for a 5mm shaft ammo motor
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=ammo+36&search=Go
The 3900 looks powerful enough.

Of course, 5mm bore pinions and a spur to match are really the hard part to get here. 0.8mod = 32 pitch (or close enough that you don't even need to worry about wear).
I've picked up one of the RR 5mm pinions
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0095p?FVPROFIL=&FVSEARCH=5mm+pinion&search=Go
and a few 32 pitch and 0.8 spurs.

Fingers crossed. If it fits even If I don't run it, I'll post some pics. Makes for a very cheap (and efficient! 89%!) brushless option.

Yeah I did note the teeth on the regular pinion. Finding 5mm pinions may be tough. spurs with less teeth should not be too hard though.

Looks like a good deal. If it were me I would get the Sidewinder and usb combo. I love programming my esc's on the computer
Why not get an AMMO motor with a 1/8" shaft?

I would, but ammo 36mm motors use 5mm shafts. Not too much of a loss, since I'm seeing a lot of motors using the 5mm shafts now. Under high power, it's more reliable than 3.17 anyway. The intended purpose is not the me16tc though so this will just be a check to see if I can get it to fit

Hey if it does, more options eh?

I'm definitely going for a mamba link, but I've spent enough this month. Wife's gonna be looking at the bills

i'm wondering why this discussion is even here since CEN advertises the truck as a 1/12th scale

Where? I think the car certainly does quality, but it's advertised as 1/16 and is named to reflect it.

says 1/16 scale there - I do agree it's a big 1/16 though.
