Before I begin installing the next layer, I'll have to remove all the "loose" strands of fiber and scuff the surface so nothing holds up the next layer creating impossible bubbles or makes adhesion an issue.

As a future reference you should have used tissue glass as first layer on mold it will stop the chance of getting print thru on your mold
if you do get print thru which is a grainy imprint of the matt showing thru mold you can wet an dry it out of the mold surface
You doing ok for fibreglass newbie
Also try an make mold approx 8mm to 10mm in total allow at least 72 hours between each layer this will give you a straight strong mold that will last you years

Thanks! "Mold newbie", I suppose....have made a few small ones for airplane parts in the past, but nothing like this boat. May take the next one I make and take it to the fiberglass repair shop down teh road....can we say...CHOPPER GUN! That would speed things up.
Been fun, just taking my time.

Mauian, I'm definately wanting to do a cat sometime.
Just opened a coffee store today so this may slow down a little...but not stop! Wife is hating how the garage smells!

Well.....I mentioned earlier in this thread that I started a new business last week. Been extremely busy with that. Working 16 hrs lately and this project is sitting as I left it 2 weeks ago. Really a shame seeing this ready to work on as I walk by it each day. Wife wants the garage back, so I think it may not be much longer till I get back on it!

Thanks for the compliments....still very busy with the coffee shop just opening, but I'll bet back on it very shortly. Hate seeing something sitting waiting to complete and don't have the time time to do it.

Means I crash hard each night as I come off my caffeine high. But on another note, spent a couple hours sanding and grinding on the hull in preparation for the next several layers of glass! I want the students to get working on a glass boat before school gets out for the summer!

OK...been busy adding layers upon layers of 3 oz glass. 6 layers total in this lower hull mold. Once it cured for 48 hours after the last layer, I added permanant stands to keep things upright and easy to work around.
The mold was trimmed and wood wedges were stuck in between the plug and mold to open things up a little. Added a bit of water and within seconds, the plug literally slid out. Minor wetsanding/polishing and this will be ready for use!

Total thickness is between 8-10mm

The green liquid is the partall liner that disolves immediately when wet...another good reason to use the right stuff!
