The prop in the video was a Vess 22 A. I timed mine, it was/is 28* BTC. I changed the plug to a Champion CJ8Y I also bought the 6 which is the next colder plug. After changing the plug the high-speed miss is cured. The guy from the UK that did a video said his started having a high-speed miss after about 10 runs, he changed the plug and it went away also.

One thought on rpm readings, I wish everyone would do it with the cowl off. I'm sure that if the same engine was put in a Yak or Sukhoi the readings would be down from the same engine in a Edge or Extra. I bet that you ran yours with the cowl on, which would give lower numbers than if only the engine was behind the prop like mine was.

Actually, I run mine with the cowl off as well as I ended up soldering a copper tube on the hole of the back plate where the diaphragm’s pump is located. I then run the tube in the fuselage in order to avoid any type of turbulent air disturbing the vibrating motion of the pump. I have used this setup in all my gassers with excellent results.

Anyway, I started a thread for the MT-57 and for a wild hare Extra 300. You can see some MT -57 videos as well as some pictures of my setup.

You did mean to say the metering diaphragm right ? Just so those that don't understand the working of the carb don't get confused

I ordered today a 23 A Vess from DA. I am curious to see what kind of readings I will get with the MT-57 and compare it with the Xoar 23 X 8.

Sorry if I missed this but does this engine have similar mounting dimensions and exhaust flange to any other engines already being made? Aslo has anyone weighed their actual engine?

Larry was t the field with me today, the engines hadn't come at 11 this morning, Larry said today or tomorrow.

I flew my engine today in a 22 pound Lanier Yak 54 that I got because a DA wouldn't make it pull out of a hover. This thing goes out of a hover like a rocket at 22 pound, in a 16 pound plane it will be ballistic!

It uses the same mufflers as the MT 50, and MT62, I Also have DA headers that will fit by just drilling the headers"s holes out 1/16 larger.

So we think mufflers from the G62 will work on it? The reason I am asking is because I will be buying either this engine or the DL-50 shortly for an SD models 50cc extra 260. The little bit of extra nose weight will be ok and I like the idea of having some extra power. Do you think I should take a chance on this engine or go with the proven DL?

good question, but if you just go by the way it is built (MT 57) i think it may be better in the long run. i myself would rather have a engine that is all machine parts rather than cast.
i was looking at the DL for a while but after hearing about low compresion, bearings wearing out,one piece crank and rod assembly,i decided not to.
but who know's the MT 57 will have bug's to get work out also.
but that is what Ralph Cunningham is for on the 57

soarrich, thats the best news I have heard in a long time, I've been waiting for something stronger than a DA or DL 50 to pull the big extreme flight 88" Yak. I absolutly refused to buy a chainsaw conversion with a side carb. Are you serious, it pulled a 22 pound plane out of a hover like a rocket?? Don't tease us if it's not true.

If you can wait a week, ralph cunningham will have his. You can take his opinion as the gospel truth. I spoke with Ralph last week, he said if the quality was anything like the other engines this guy makes, it will be great. I wasn't worried so I got in at the 390 price. I'm betting this engine will be the next big hit, even hotter than the DL-50

Yes, the muffler I ran on it today was off the MT62, which is a G62 clone, and it fits right on without any modifacation.

I have a SD 50cc Extra 260 from TBM with MT62 in it, it's becoming my favorite plane, with a MT57 you'll love it. This plane flies very light, comes with a canister tunnel, which I modified quickly so it's a flow thru tunnel. This engine doesn't weigh more than the DL, I think I weighed mine it was 3 pounds 9 ounces. I think I saw a picture with everything, ignition, spark plug, stand off, it weighed 1550 grams.

I have a DL also, it's nice, but it doesn't compare to the MT57.

A 3w-56 twin pulls the daylights out of the Extreme Flight 88" Yak and has extremely good vertical pull out from a hover. Loaded for bear the EF Yak with the 3w-56 weighs about 18-1/2 pounds.

Just shipped [8] this morning. I am personaly checking each engine before I send them out. I do not want any little bumps to come up along the way and it should be a gas and go. I set each engine to perform at sea level, so if you are close to sea level your engine should be very close to being set for easy start. I have another [8] to go tomorrow. I hope we sart getting feed back soon.

I tested with a canister off a DA50, mtw td 75k 7200rpm with a 23a vess. The Da stuff blots right up after you drill the header holes out 1/16 inch, G62 headers bolt right on.

What battery will i need for the ignition? 4.8 or 6 volt? Will a one cell lipo work like on the brillelli's? Also is the engine coming with a mounting template? Lastly I plan on breaking in with a vess prop, will a 23a be too much load for break-in or should I go with a 22a?

Haven't tried it, but it's the same ignition I have on my Brillelli 366GT.

I posted a mounting template on RCU in another thread, it's one I drew up for myself, it also has the DA50 mounting holes on it in case you're pulling a DA to put the MT57 in, this forum doesn't allow PDFs, but other ForumGs do so you can find it in PDf there. The drawing looks crude but I made it by making arcs that where accurate to .01", the crank center-line I had to eyeball but it can't be more that .1" out at the most, though I think it's dead on.

If you got a 22a use it, if not the 23a will work. I started mine and ran it at 3000 rpm for 15 minute runs about 3 or 4 times, then ran it like I stole it.
