Hey guys....I purchased a new SportAir 45 last year, and have finally got around to assembling it. I still have my original 16 year old SpotAir 40 that I built as a teenager, and after seeing the new S.A.45, I fell in love again! First off, the build quality and covering (Ultrakote) on this plane is second to none! It is very lightweight with mostly balsa construction and almost no "light ply", like so many of todays cookie cutter ARF's. -Just the way it should be! This newer version of the SportAir has a fully assembled one piece wing, with provisions for servos on each aileron, unlike the original. It also has a longer tail section, and a re-shaped semi cowled nose. This is where I ran into a slight problem. I also bought a new OS 46AX for it. The 46AX, as you probably know, has a remote mounted needle valve. With the size of the engine compartment, it can be quite tight for some motors. After messing around with my G.P. motor mount for a few nights, I found that it was just not possible to use the 46 without hacking that pretty nose all up. I e-mailed John at Northeast Aero. asking for any hints, tips or suggestions, as well as sending a few photos of my predicament. Well, long story short, after a few more tries at mounting this combo, John sent me an e-mail. He offered to either 1) Buy the plane back for what I payed for it, or 2) Send him my 46AX, and he will buy me a brand new 55AX with the new standard carb (w/ canted needle assembly)to install in this plane (even trade!) I chose option 2 and He responded about 10 minutes later saying that he 's having the new 55AX shipped directly to me, and when I get it, to send him my 46, at my convenience. The help, generosity, trust, and customer service with Northeast Aerodynamics is far beyond any that I have ever experienced! I would buy another aircraft or do business with them again in a heartbeat. In todays world, it's hard to find a company like this anywhere. Now I'm not saying to go out and buy this ARF and you can expect to get a new motor for it free of charge...What I want to say is THANK YOU, NE. Aero. for being part of our modeling community! As soon as the snow melts, I will have a full flight report for everyone here! -Craig P. -Hillsborough,NH http://ne-aero.com/sport-air45arf.aspx

"The cream always rises to the top!"

Here is a picture of my Sport Air .60 which was scratch built by master craftsman and AMA RVP Fred Hildebrand from blown up Sport Air .40 plans. This aircraft is an absolute delight to fly. I like to brag that all you have to do to land is get it over the end of the runway and turn lose of the sticks. This fine old ship has approximately 1,000 flights. I don't recall when Fred built her but I believe that I am the fourth owner.

I kicked myself for not ordering one of the .45 ARFs the last time that they were on sale. After reading your post I went to NEA's web site and saw that they were again on sale. I did not make the same mistake twice and have one on it's way to cold windy Wyoming.

I have NIB little Enya .50 SS that should fit nicely when I get around to assembling it.

I would be interested in reading a flight report on your Sport Air, Craig.

Regards to All!

I too have purchased a Sport air 45, back in Oct. 07 I believe, when NE had their phone sale. Had been looking at the plane for a long time. I never thought I would get through to them, but on the third try, Bingo. I mounted an OS 50 on it, it is a gourgeous airplane, and arrived to me in flawless condition. My only issue with it was the assembly manual that came with it, left a lot to be desired. However, having built many ARF's from across the big pond, I figured things out easily. I really like the way the cowl is all wood, makes for a really tight and interesting way to mount an engine, but adds to the clean lines of the plane. I only hope it flies as good as it looks. My thanks to NE also, for such a great looking airplane. Any chance of some more designs from the folks of Northeast Aerodynamics?????
