I have a Dumas chief kit that has no plans except an isometric drawing that shows how the plane is built. Does anyone know if there were full size plans in any of this series of kits. I built a crusader and corsair profiles and they had small plans only.

Some VECO kits had only the isometric plans so you would not scratch build more planes from the plans. Many folks traced parts on back of the plans for replacement parts.

Those plans are available from other sources, however there are various versions. Mine came from Joe Wagner, who redesigned the kit in 1951.

Spin2,

Joe Wagner has the engines column in AMA's Model Aviation mag. You may find an email address there, or a snail-mail address, to contact him.

He also published as plans for direct sale - no magazine tie-in - for a "Super Chief" which may or may not be acceptable at a given OTS contest. (Thicker wing, blunter LE, etc., and asserted references that such a Chief was flown "in the day."

Luck!

Joe Wagner is: vecojoe@juno.com

Send him an email and he'll send you the particulars.

Joe's plans were reviewed and verified by George Aldrich. Joe has lots of notes and facts included on his plans. The plan includes both the Chief and Super Chief versions.

Briefly, if I understand it correctly, the original "Polywog" Chief was designed by Hi Johnson based on Bob Palmer's Go Devil. It may have been redesigned by Bob Palmer later.

Jow Wagner redesigned the Chief to remove the polywog wing and also created a super-light version named Super Chief that flew in the 1950 nats.

Well, here are a couple of the notes from Joe's plans:
