Pé, I began later than you and the first 6.5 engines I sold were already the newer design, with the new carburettor and with a blue (or gold) head and prop-driver. I actually sold no 6.5 engines, except many Quickies. I own an older, neutral finish 8.0 GFS/R, which came with the mid-generation carburettor. This carburettor already has the black needle with an external thread. Please look at the last photo, which shows the engine from the front-left side... That 'springy' needle has a housing that threads onto the nozzle, just like the current low-speed needle, with an internal thread in the housing... I exchanged the spray-bar and low-speed needle in my engine, but this never completely 'fixed' the rich mid-range... Two years ago, I installed the new #3216 on it and its throttle response is now rheostatic. Even with the 'upgrade kit', it ran in four-cycle at anything below 40% throttle, to just off-idle. Now it runs at two-cycle mode, from 1,800 RPM to 12,500 (11.5x5 Bolly) and everywhere in between. It still uses the original C-6S plug. It never burnt-out, or became 'crusted'.
