Hi all,
I'm looking for plans to build a foam core fuse bi-plane around an OS 160FX.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Build OMP's Ultimate and strap the OS to it. Might be a little too much for it though. But then again, a little too much is usually just right.

OPM's ultimate would be great if I could scale it up to around 72"
I'm also concidering 3DFOAMY's Pitts, scaled up of course, with airfoiled wings

If you could find a copy of a Weeks Solution....and do it with a foam fuse. That would be different.

You can buy plans for the Miles Reed models, Weeks Special, Solution, Solution X and XX from Dave Dessecker. He sells everything from plans to full kits. PM me with your email address and I can send you a pdf of the last brochure I have from Dave, or email him direct:

72" would be too much. The 80" profiles with a single wing are just right with the 1.60fx. A bipe always requires more power because of the extra drag. Two 72" wings equal a 144" single wing.

I'd say a bipe around 65-70 inches would be the biggest you would go for the OS 160 size model.

Well I've done some approximate calculations, based on 3D FOAMY'S Pitts scaled up 200%

Profile fuse, including rudder cord = 61"

Top wing with semetrical airfoil = 69 1/2"

bottom wing with semetrical airfoil = 66"

wing cord = 11" - 12"

would this be too big for a 160fx?

You basically have the same specs as this plane- http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKJB5&P=0
There is a big thread on that plane that you can check out. A 50cc gasser is the engine of choice. If you can build it light you might have a winner.

I think I can bring it in between 10 and 11 lbs. by putting lightening holes thruoghout the fuse without sacrificing
structural integrity. perhaps???

Just need to be careful with CG

IF....you can keep it at 10 or 11 lbs.....the 1.60 would be fine on it!
