My Spektrum DX6i arrived on Saturday morning. After struggling all day trying to figure out how to use some of the extra switches to operate the main gun and MG I picked up on this thread...

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7301841/tm.htm

With the help of those guys I managed to get the Mix configuration so that two switches fired the main gun amd MG repectively.

However, When it came to my Sherman and Pershing tanks the two mix functions were used up with firing and there was nothing left to operate the lights (and the startup on the Pershing). No doubt someone on this forum will now point out that you can do so-and-so to achieve this but I decided on doing it the same way as I have on my old Futaba Skysport Txs. I soldered fire buttons to the elevator potentiometer. Not for the fainthearted I'll admit but here's how I did it in case anyone else is feeling reckless!

I can now fire the guns and save the Flaps, Gear and Mixes for other things.

nice work. I only have the DX6 so all i did was change one switch to a button and converted that to the main gun, I just kept the setting for the MG to fire with the stick to the rear set up. great work. i like the detail you put in with the pics for us visual peeps.

grompix, where did you get those cool looking push buttons? Distributor and part number?

to take care of the safety lock set your reverse End Point Adjustment (EPA) to 125% that will allow you to unlock the tank by quick full reverse and letting go of the stick. (if the stick auto centers)

Hope this helps

When I was using my airtronics super 6000 I had my tank connections set up in the following way

Aileron channel = Rudder
Throttle channel = Throttle
Elevation channel = Gun elevator
Rudder channel = Turret turn

That way I can do set up in low dual rates(100% throw) and a master arm switch when I set it to high dual rates(150% throw). This way I can mix the flap channel to Right full rudder to activate the head lights of my pershing. For the pershing engage gear system I just use teh throttle cut function set to -50% and when I need to engage teh gear, I press that button and move my throttle stick to full reverse for a split second after which I put tehthrottle backto neutral and let go of the throttle cut switch and she is ready to go.

Very glad you all find it useful folks. Thanks James S and Planedev - I knew someone would have solutions for the Pershing startup and lights! Never mind, I'm still happy to have added the extra buttons as it gives me more options to use buttons and switches to activate other things.

BTW someone on this forum mentioned recently that the DX6i is quite sensitive to Tamiya DMD 'differences'. I found that out when I set up my Tamiya Tiger 1 by copying my Panther modelmatch settings. Lo and behold - I can get the main gun OR the MG to fire with my new buttons but not both (only one without the other). The Panther works perfectly. Very strange, especially since the Panther and Tiger DMDs are supposed to be the same. I'll have to mess about a bit more with the settings to see if I can resolve the issue.

I nearly forgot Dugster. I use Rapid Electronics a fair bit here in the UK. I suppose Radio Shack would be your equivalent in the USA.
Here's a link to the type of button I used.

I tried all your suggestions but I still can't get the main gun to get configured to one of the switches on my dx6i.  Please help as this it the very last thing on my son's Sherman birthday present for May 2nd.
