So, heres what Im looking for. I need a camcorder for the rc race season. I would like to film a 12 to 14 hour event either on sd cards or dvd. Camera must be able to capture these fast little cars running the tracks and look good. I would like to be able to play the clips back and be able to take single stills off of the video clips, perhaps that a program thats needed?
I 30 or 40 hard drive would work but I would then need to download that to the computer or lap top. Only thing, I dont want to carry the lap top to the track and risk dirt killing it.
Any pointers on what works on the high spped buggies and truggies? Trying for a price range between 5-700 dollars. I already spent 1700 on my truggy so need not get to crazy with the camcorder.
Ideas? Thanks.

I won't comment on which one to get, I will only say - avoid the newer tiny cameras. They are so small that unless your a small woman or little kid, you can't work the buttons.

Look into a Fuji S-700 camera. I bought one and I really like the quality and size and the price. A 2.0 gig SD card will give you 1/2 hour of movies.

It has a standard lens on it where you can use filters or different lenses also, but comes with its own zoom, ect.

As far as stills are concerned, you'll have to look into software programs for that.

I just purchased this Sony HDRSR12 120GB 10.2MP Handycam Camcorder last month as a replacement to my old Sony DCR-TRV8, it''s a deal price of $1099, maybe not under your budget, but i think it''s worth to try

The photos it takes are outstanding. The video is HD quality. Experimenting around with it, the face detection technology even works with faces on the TV screen. very satisfied with it.

I think the best way to go is with a camcorder instead of a digital camera with video capabilities.

The digital camera route isn''t the best because the auto-focus is somewhat slower than a camcorder, and video quality might be a bit grainy compared to it.

Hard for me to say where the camcorder prices start though if they would be in your budget, thats why I was thinking shopping for a digital camera that would possibly be lower priced and have a respectable video quality.
