awolfe9 -> HITEC servos & FASST receiver compatability (4/2/2008 10:25:18 PM)

I am thinking about switcing my planes to FASST. I am using a Futaba 9C transmitter and will probably purchase just the module as I like the transmitter and already have all my planes programed. All of my planes currently use Hitec autoshift receivers as well as Hitec servos. I have recently ran across threads on RCU suggesting that the voltage output from the Futaba FASST receivers may not have the signal strength to operate these servos on a standard installation, much less installations where HD servo extensions are used for runs 24-36 inches. There never seems to be a real clear answer to the questions in the Futaba forum. I love my 9C and it does anything that I could possibly ask it to do, but I don't want to invest in the 8 FASST receivers and module if I have to purchase all new Futaba servos as well. I prefer the Hitec servos and find they are of better quality and I can get them easily at the LHS. I've also got a few more unbuilt planes on the shelf that i've already purchased Hitec servos for . So please, if you can give me some advice as to the compatability let me know.

Please post reply. This is a question that i need the answer to also. I am sure that many more people here on RCU would like to also.

Craig,

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7365443/tm.htm

It looks like Futaba is confirming the voltage issue with higher end receivers, but i'm still not 100% confident and that means i'm not putting anything in the air just yet. I borrowed a friends R607FS & R617FS receiver and radio. I tested it with one of my planes that has JR NES-537 servos as well as Hitec HS-425 servos and didn't have any issues on the bench. I'm just hoping someone that has flown Hitec servos with this system regulary can vouch for the reliablility before I invest in the module & receivers for my 9CAP.

Hitec had a similar issue with some of our digital servos using a y harness with the Futaba PCM and fixed it with a resistor value change. All of the current servos are updated and should work fine with the Futaba FAAST system. If there are any issues then most likely the servos need to be sent in to be updated to the new hardware (resistor.)

Mike.

Mike,

Thank you for the help! Do you roughly when the change was made? My oldest are some 645MG's that I have on a Showtime. They are about a year old.

I think this was about 18 months ago. Unfortunately, you never know the exact age of a servo due to how long it sits on the mutlitple shelves prior to getting to the customer.

Is this valid for all servo models or just a subset? I have the 5945MG in mind.

RCer.

5945's were discontinued prior to this issue. They should be fine.

So the 5945 should work with the nominal output voltage of 2.7v for Futaba FASST receivers?

Thanks
RCer

We've not heard otherwise.

Hello,
Have there been the same issues reported with the AR9000 receivers?
I recently bought a Futaba TM08 module with a 608FS FASST receiver.
I had problem driving 2 Hitec 5646's on Ch 6 with Y harness. Other channels seemed to be okay driving these servos with Y harness.

Now, instead of adjusting my Hitec servos, I was thinking of switching to Spektrum module for Futaba with AR9000.
Would this work for me?

Thanks,

Wisnu
