OK, Maybe I'll just get the teflon gaskets instead. Justaddwata suggested a thin silicone bead, or possibly a well cut cardboard gasket...but I think a good teflon one will be the way to go. So I will take off the velocity stack, but how do you remove the choke assembly on a WT644 carb? There will be a hole where the choke knob enters the carb. What would you plug that with? I also noticed when the engine was out, the engine rails are not a solid piece of 1/4" wood, but two 1/8" pieces sandwiched together. I noticed this as soon as the engine came out because there was a small gap between the two. Since I won't be on the water till friday, I will be glassing in the stingers tomorrow, and making darn sure the rails hold up.

Oh, and I saw I post that someone wrote stating I was hitting 64mph. I wish. That's xxxtcr's KOS, not mine. Just an FYI!

you could fill the two holes up with silicon, or I think you can get a 257 carb for about 50 bucks, maybe even cheaper if you look around, There is no need for a choke really, Just put your finger over the hole, pull twice, and the carb is primed, will fire on the 3rd pull. But I would strongly reccommend the big bore carb, you will be impressed by the extra power, and if you want to keep the venom motor, you can buy a lightened piston and ported cylinder for about 150 bucks, and have a 4.5 hp motor and then throw a pipe at it and you'll be doing great, I would suggest another prop though, My dad found some aluminum tubing that worked great as a shim, I will find out where he got it from, you can stuff any 1/4 in prop with it and make it work on the smaller shafts.

good tip to notice, look out for areas susceptible to burning from the pipe. I've a KOS ordered, not on hand, but aware of a curve of learning what to watch out for. Hmm..you could use muffler wrap used for sport bikes, ie for those hot ducati's/termognoni pipes, the tape wraps around the pipe as a heat shield, or a kevlar tape, even a layer of "speed tape" an aluminum tape with light adhesive (no gunk or plasitc resin used as ashesive) and the tape comes in various thicknesses and widths. I am looking to set up a tunned pipe, possibly a wet configuration?, any opinions anyone? depending on how the KWA sounds either way?

@Stephen, Sorry we dont sell the decal sets for these boats.

The gasket for the carb is a pretty standard material and pattern. You could replace it with another gasket from your local hobby shop or lawnmower repair place. The carb manifold rotates the carb and places it in a position for the TH linkage to work and primer bulb to be facing up. Its plastic to keep the fuel from boiling before its mixed and to keep the air temp down.
I'd like to see a photo of the bad gasket to make sure its the right one from us if possible.

xxxtcr- quick question, I looked at the 275 carb, I notice they don't come with a primer, how do you get the gas to carb and prime it everytime.

you mean the 257 carb.

to prime it you put your thumb over the carb intake, 2 or 3 pulls or until the engine pops.

than start as normal.

you don't have to do that procedure everytime you stop for refill, basically done on first start of the day or if the last run was approx 1 hour ago (not always needed).

Dan.

Here's whats left of the gasket on the intake port. I took off the manifold/block and was left with this.

I've got 2 new teflon gaskets coming..but I wont get until next week. Next day air from FL to MN is $35!!!! Yea right, I can wait. Hopefully once I get these, all the kinks will be worked out and i can finally enjoy running this. Luckily I don't mind the teardown and rebuild process.

what would be good replacement gasket as you mentioned getting teflon gaskets and where from? Is that rather than the stock or standard material gaskets? Also can a sheet of gasket material be bought to cut/make your own gaskets? What do the performance/racers use for gaskets, material, or rely on standard engine manufacture replacements? As it would ruin a day boating to discover a leaking gasket that could easily be replaced if spares on hand!? KOS to arrive this fri,..but hope to be on long island's south shore in a full size sea ray while the summer's still here!

Well...since I'm still waiting on my teflon intake gaskets, and the motor is out, might as well reinforce the hull. Added a layer of fiberglass cloth on both side of the stringers the engine mounts to. Also added a thin layer of resin to the seem where the top and bottom part of the hull meet. I mentioned before that the engine stringers are actually 1/8" pieces sandwiched together, so I added a little resin on top to prevent splitting. I had no idea that I used too much as the pics can tell....there was a little drippage. Atleast it's sealed now, and I don't have to worry about breaking the epoxy bond that came stock. When removing the newpaper I used to protect the hull from any resin drips, I noticed the gelcoat on the bottom of the hull was starting to crack and lift...behind each sponson. I sealed those as well. Luckily, this part of the boat isn't in the water while running. I would post the pics normally, but the site says the files are too large....they aren't, but oh well.
