Prop depth depends on water conditions and prop choice. Level to +/- 1/8  seems good.
I run the smaller props a little lower than the larger ones and tend to run lower in the rough stuff
then I do smoother speed runs.
By running the strut tucked in a tad ,seems to hold a better line in the corners. Could be just different driving styles too.

Ohh props:
ABC props- large selection, good price
Voodo Props- Top quality race props
The Prop Shop West- Custom props , top quality here too

I am finally getting my KOS together.  I have the KWA motor, VooDoo prop, Pipe, Dual pickup rudder.  Will these work to adapt the VooDoo prop to the stock driveline?  http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=oct-oc68rb

Thanks

The stock shaft is 5mm. You will have to get a drill bit and drill it out or buy the 5mm id-1/4 od  spacer.

All the newer boats from Venom include 5mm to 1/4 adapters from what their customer service department said.

Just a reminider to everyone and to those of you who have just purchased a KOS/Segad, please dont pull out the pull starter handle more than about 10in from the engine. Doing so can damage the starter. The engine will start within a few rapid short pulls if its tuned correctly. If not then continue to use short rapid starter pulls until the engine runs and can be tuned properly. Once you practice this technique you will see how easy it is to operate and tune.

Thanks!

Chris

Hey how's that KWA motor working?  I would think it is just plain scary in those full throttle runs.
As the ice is starting to take over the pond I had time for  another set of speed runs
New carb. installed ,upgraded the exhaust manifold and added more venting.
AAhh now we're talking. I don't know if it's the cold water or the mod's but now close to 60MPH !!
Just over 4 gallons on the motor now and had 3 runs 1st. 57.7, second 58.1
It took the whole pond but got it to 58.65. I'm almost ok with that as
it pulls  well in the mid 50's and handling is much better in the 50-55 range anyway.
Well dry dock time. Have some thoughts for minor hull mods and
Chris... maybe Venom could make a Skegged strut blade for us

P.S. No pull start problems here.
Later....like Spring, when the ice melts

10", surely you jest. Has fixing the problem ever crossed anyones mind? That's crazy. I am sure you could fire one in that short pull but to exceed it and do damage doesn't seem to good. Must be hard to keep replacement starters in stock.

Wt-771 carb. holds settings well, tuned easy and added 1.5mph to the top end maybe more ?
Wt-257 I didn't like impossible to tune and setting would not hold. Tried on my 5B with same result.  Could be just me.
Seems my old carb. could not supply enough fuel when wide open and would go lean.
This would cause loss of power until the temps went down then ok again.
With the new carb. no problem.  I also have the WT-668 on my 5th scale it too works well.
Don't have the weather to test between the 668 and 771 so that will have to wait till spring.
Don't have the WT-813 so cann't compare.
Maybe others will post thier findings as well. Cann't wait as I'm sure I can hit 60mph.
I thought i'd never hit 55 now that's like the norm. That's 15+mph gain from out of the box stock.
Wow

Looking in manuals for other motors of this type including my mod. motor in my Baja 5B they all
say the same 10" is the norm.
I have friends that go through pull starts like 3-1 as compared to me with the 5B.
I've have the same stock pull start in my boat for 4 gallons + with no problems.
Yes I've lifted the hull off it's stand several times and still works perfect.
PS.  If you have a remote kill switch  make sure it's not turned on when trying to start.  lol

Hi. Just got my KOS in the water for the first time today. I run a high ratio of oil in my fuel mix for some other motors (mods,QD's,...), so it took a few runs to get it dialed in. Once I got it close to where it should be, it really took off! It's totally stock right now, but I'd have to say I'm very impressed with the quality. The glass work and paint/graphics are much better than I expected. It appears to be a well built boat. I didn't have any issues aside from having to snug up the exhaust flange just a little.

I wanted to try some other props but ran out of time. I also had a modded WT-257 with me that will have to wait for next time. I was pleased with the speed seeing how it basically has just a canister muffler. The hull is predictable in corners and straights, and looks totally scale at rest as well as at full speed. I have been looking for a cat hull that has the scale appearence of this one for years now. The closest I could find was the Expresscraft Thunderbolt, but always wished it was a little longer.

The motor ran great and started up easily. I had no issues with the starter. Short quick pulls were the way to go. When warm, I could get her running in one short pull (about 6").

Thanks to the info in this post, I already plan to swap the carb, drop a pipe in her, and try some props. I can see myself switching to a 1/4" flex shaft down the road.

My vids from today are horrible, so here's just a pic next to my AC Razor-

I may have missed it, but could you give me a run down of what you have done to your cat to get these speeds?

Thansk!

See post #1189 added WT-771 and gained 1.5mph+.
Also moded the props and did some work on port matching.
Still have a few things to try

Well I wouldn't call it stock see post #1189 it lists other pcs not including the carb.
I got  39.7-39.9 mph out of the box stock after brake in.
The cost in time is way more than the cost of the hop-up parts but that's what is all about.
