Cool. I just received my 180's yesterday from Jamie. Maybe I should have waited. Oh well, at least the first generation of 180's are still better than the stock cx2 motors.

That is good news! !

Bad news, is that I just recently bought 4 of the old ones; oh well. I like the looks, and the quick change brushes is gonna be great!
25% more power for the added bling.

It would be nice to see some data backing that. Is there a way to test the two side-by-side? 25% seems to be a pretty large claim.

I don't know about measuring,

but if they are doing more windings; they will have more power (if done right), but I don't know where the 25% comes from.

I would think it would be quite noticeable just flying them and One could speculate about how much. We all fly alot.

I hope the weight is the same, that they just used smaller guage wire and wound more windings to achieve more power, as You could negate the affects of more power with more weight pretty quick.

Going from the pic; the ventilation looks real good; probably will run cooler or at least the same with the added power They promise.

Lots of questions; I'm willing to be a Guinnea Pig.

IMO, Xtreme has now realize that they have a Winner motor, but their skid and tail assy. is WAY too heavy, so are improving the motor to help with that part of their line.

I just got the new Xtreme 180 SE Motors are there great!
Had the Xtreme 180 first version motors with silver brushes
and those were very good but the new motors are fantastic, big difference
in power and cooling.

I put in the silver brushes in the Xtreme 180 SE Motors and broke them in before
putting them on the helicopter and test flew it outside.

The magnets are STRONG!!! It's hard to turn the blades by hand.
The helicopter wants to jump out of you hand when you punch it.
These motors run cooler then the first version 180 motors.
Also so far I got the same flight times with the new motors
as I got with the fist version motors. WAY over 10 minutes continuous flying
with more time to fly still. Probably 1-2 minutes or more left.
Will test out more flight times soon as see for sure.
Using DN 7.4V 15C 850 mAh batteries.

I had to adjust the proportional pot about 1/4 turn and turn down the gain about 1/4 turn
with the new motors.
With the old motors it could hover rock steady hands free.
So the new motors changed things a bit.

The heli fly’s VERY strong with the new version motors and hovers rock steady hands free.
Motors run nice and cool also.

Tom

The new motors really do look sweet! Hope they live up to expectations!
Not so great, considering that within the last 14 days I just ordered and received my first edition 180 motors!

Oh well, another sweet hop-up to look forward too!

I hope they do but so far there great. Have a bunch of flights on them.
Have seen other good reviews on them from other people.

Wouldn't be concerned about getting the first version motor as they are VERY good!
Compared to stock motors, more power, longer flight times, and run much cooler.
Also the silver brushes along with 15 C batteries or higher will really make the motors run good at there full level.

The new version motors are still so new it can't hurt to wait to see the reviews on them
and how they are doing with other people.
I was going to wait and see but took a chance. So far so good...

Update. Just did more flying outside and I am getting about the same flight times with these as I was getting
with the first version of the Xtreme 180 Motors! Getting 10-11 minutes flight time.

Tom

Great review Tom, Thanks.
I have one question, How easy is it to change the brushes on the new motors? I have the old 180 and hate solidering in the silver brushes.

Your welcome eat2muchrice!

The brushes are the same for the version 2 motors (both the carbon and sliver) as the version 1 motors.
In fact I used a new set of silver brushes I bought when I purchased the version 1 motors
and then put them in the version 2 motors.

To change the brush is the same as the version 1 motors.
Unsolder the motor wire, snap out the old brush, snap in the new one, and resolder the motor wire.

Also I do have the PTC fuses installed with these version 2 motors and had them with the version 1 motors.
I have some friends who are just learning to fly so I feel safer with the fuses to protect my 3 in 1
on my Blade CX2 (v2) incase they don't throttle down in a crash...!

Tom

Here is a picture of my heli showing the Xtreme 180 SE motor.
I mounted the PTC Fuses on the motors to get rid of the extra wire and weight.

They look sweet, I was really hoping I didn't have to solder and resolder though. Thanks for the info and pictures.

I guess "quick change" means that if you have a soldering iron plugged in and ready to go. I also thought that I could just take it out and pop it in as the description suggested. Oh well, it's nice looking though. I can't wait to get a set of those.

I hear those motors are lighter still; and with the ventilated cans probably all but eliminates the heatsink mod. saving loads of weight. (in which I will trade out for the C.F cnc frame!
