Recently I posted a question to you guys about running a 14x6 prop on a Saito 120. I was underprop. So I went to a 15x8 turning 8800-8900 rpm. Does this rpm sound right to you guys??? I was turning 10,200 with the 14x6.

When I put on the 15x8 and dialed the engine I lost some vertical compared to the 14x6. It just doesn't seem right to me??

Thanks for you input,

Blackdog

Should prop a Saito around 9,500, a 15x6 should do that and you'll have your verticle back.

Daz,

I change my throttle alot in flight so it's tuff to tell. I'm using the tank they gave me with the plane. I think it's a 14oz. About 10 minutes or so. I land and defuel. I suck about 15 secs worth of fuel/air from the tank after the flight.

I'm with your other respondent. You went up in both pitch and diameter. Try a 15x6 to get the vertical back.

I run a 16X8 APC on a Saito 1.5 @~8700 on a 4-120 bipe and would try a 17x6 if I had the ground clearance for it.

Cheers,

CR

You dont say what kind of prop. I have a saito 120 and an apc 15-8 does great. pulls a 10 lb biplane up strong.(not unlimited) I have flown it with a standard MA 15-8 and it is thrustier but doesnt turn as many rpm by far. I have also used a MA 3 blade 14-7 and although it flew fine I liked it least of all. What kind of plane are we talking about. A 14-10 would be great for speed, a 15-6 for thrust and not much speed. I think the 15-8 APC is about right. Try 20-25% nitro and your saito will start to shine

It is a Kyosho Cap 232 60 size. The prop is an APC 15x8. I think I'm going to try the 15x6, like others have suggested. My major concern was that I couldn't get my rpms up and I lost alot of vertical. I don't know the weight of the plane.

I appreciate all the ideas everyone has given me on this question.

Thanks,
Blackdog

Guys,

I have spent some time looking at the sizes of APC props available from the major mail-order houses & distributors. Most stock only what is most popular. If you want to see a full line of APC props, go to <www.apcprop.com> and you may be surprised at the selection.

You can order direct on the site, at hobby shop prices.

FWIW,

CR

You might also consider bolly clubman props, they come in half sizes - like 14.5 x 8 etc. I run the 13.5 x 8 on a saito 91 on a tower kaos pattern plane and like it very much. They have much the same appearance, arent quite as sharp on the tip and IMO a bit thrustier,

i use a 15x8 M.A. on my 1.20 on an ultimate. getting about 9300 rpm with 30% heli fuel. at full throttle it will pull it verticle as far as i want it to go. also seems to really like the higher nitro fuel. the guys at H9 run 35% in thier saitos. i am going to go to the 35%. just finished breaking in a 1.80 and getting 9800 with a 16x8 and 35%
