Johng: (I take it you like the movie Memento? Awesome stuff.) Yes, the turbine-powered 1941 Waco biplane, the yellow Bulldog Pitts, and the jet-powered semi are The Masters of Disaster. My God, was that a show or what?!

What do you mean, Jim Wright and the Hughes Racer were "lost"? You mean he crashed and died? I'm gonna have to look that up... that was one hell of a gorgeous plane... did you see the craftsmanship that went into the wood spar and the landing gear legs? I sure hope you're not saying what I think you're saying... that would be a tragedy!

aloof: I tried to go to the site, but a dialer program popped up. What's the deal? I'll try to get making some CAD parts soon, but wanted to check the site out first.

That is a great-looking CAD servo! I hope all submissions to the CAD repository will be that detailed.

Nevermind, aloof... I got to it. I just copied/pasted your URL into my address bar without the "http://www", and my browser found some other stupid site. I hope this goes over well, because a lot of us guys could really use it. Thanks for putting up the space!

Aright guys... the "DXF Vault" is now open for sharing!

You can visit out site: http://www.renderwurx.com/rc and from the main menu select Field Data... on that page near the middle will be the DXF Vault Icon...

Come and get it!

AND... keep those DXF files coming.. send them to:

wow!...all these hosts opening up all of a sudden!

i'm gonna hang off for a while creating the rccadparts.deathkeep.com then. I really want a new machine that I can dedicate to being a dedicated webserver running php that's not on a shared environment so that I can setup a "search dxf by category/type/model/favorite color"...it's just too complicated in perl on a shared server.....(programmers, like lightning, will always find the path of least resistance)

ETA on that is about end of September.

In the mean time, please, everybody else send your files to Mordib or Clint_K_C.....

If they don't hear from you and your donations to the cad archive, you will from me! >

Hey, great work guys.

It's really satisfying to see it actually getting done.

We'll all benefit by sharing and comparing work, and it'll make design communication between CAD/RCers more standard.... which I think is great!

I'll send some this weekend. Kind of tied up until then.

Actually, Like Mike J said in post #14, I just use the parts for fit & functional design - to design airplane parts around them. I could do without a bunch of gearhead splines or tiny chamfers, as long as the critical dimensions are accurate. Files have a way of inflating with all that detail added. Nothing against that particular servo design though. It's very nice. I just don't want my CAD to slow to a crawl while all that detail is processed.

I absolutely agree, JohnG... but it's still a nice servo. I do a lot of 3D CAD work for designing tools/parts that I make on my machine lathe/mill, but I rarely go into that much detail. Like you said, only the critical dimensions (mounting holes, overall case size, and functional mechanics) need to be accurate. But ExactScale did a nice job on the servo, and I wanted to give him some kudos. Attention to detail always pays off, no matter what you're doing.

John, you are absolutely right but...

There are different uses of a cad drawings, this is servo for 3D modelling a photo-real model of a model airplane the same way as Mike James's nice work.

However i do use simple pictures for plans, design and plotting.

I just wanted to "show off" what you can do with little extra time with the CAD

Hey, ExactScale,

That is some nice work, and I agree about the useage of images like that. For "real life" planning, (and computer speed/file size) simple is better. But it's nice to see how close we can get to reality with the images sometimes.

I even try paint schemes sometimes on my CAD models... Why not?

I look forward to seeing a lot more of these things, and discovering how different modelers approach the problem.

Hey, nothing wrong with detailing out a servo if you want. I'll say it again, that's nice work. Just when Clint said "I hope all submissions to the CAD repository will be that detailed" I wanted to ping him just a little on that, 'cause I disagree.

I'd rather see simpler functional shapes available. While I wouldn't call it "easy" to make a detailed piece like Exactscale did - it's alot easier to add detail to a basic shape than cut it out later.

Ok, I've submitted files to both sources above who have offered to host these files.

On both sites, I only found 2 other files, so it looks like only 3 of us have contributed so far. (or, they're just not posted yet)

Come on guys...
These people are hosting these files for free! Jump in there and send what you can. Eventually, one or both of these sites could become a resource for all of us.

Thanks for the donation Mike!

I've resumed working on the site. Even though it's not optimal, it's something for now, and I'll be improving it at irregular intervals

Again, for those who have missed it in the thread, the url is http://www.rccadparts.deathkeep.com/

Looks like this idea is actually starting to take shape!

I have a lot of cad files and most were pulled off the Web over the last few years. There is no $$ involved in my submitting files. Is it OK to submitt from my "stash if I see I have somthing that will help ? I did not draw the parts but I am sure others will find them useful.

Thanks
Bill
