I bought my axe cp-l in jan of 08 and in about a month the lipo was swelling. I wasn't over discharging it either. I also lost alot of performance out of the pack. I sent it back and they replaced it free of charge, but they sent me the one thats currently being recalled for the replacement lol.

When I was about to upgrade to Li-po, I made sure to get the lightest battery with the highest C rating and highest capacity I could find. I didn't think the 910 mah batteries were capable of the high amperage draw required to hover this heli. C rating is a multiplier of the batteries capacity, so 10C 910 mah is only capable of 9.1 amps, but with a 1320 its 13.2 amps. The TP's were capable of 15 amps continuous and up to 18 amps burst which I felt was safe. And, I always balance them before, during, and after a charge.

Be sure to take advantage of Helimax's offer to upgrade to the better battery. Its a great offer.

Now, batteries are capable of 25C and 50C bursts, they're safer, but should still be treated with respect.

OK, here’s what we really need. The stock three and one board should be replaced with a unit that will handle brushless motors. The electronic speed controller on the main motor should also include a battery monitor circuit which would reduce amperage as the voltage decreased to about nine volts. The gyro should be a heading hold gyro which would drive another brushless electronic speed controller for the tail motor. This could all be sold in a package which would include the appropriate brushless motors and heat sinks.

I'm using the TP 1320 3s pack.

TP1320-3SPL 11.1V 1320mAh 3-Cell 84 19 x34 x65 49.95 on http://thunderpowerrc.com/html/prolites.html.

The charger I'm using is a Hobbico Quick Field Charger MK II, which will charge 2 packs at once, but is limited to only 1, 2, or 3 Cell packs, no larger. I also have the TP balancer, and an E-sky balancing charger. Finally, I bought some EVO Flight Power 1340 mah packs with 25C rating, but they are a little heavier.

Wish that TP-610C Charger was out when I was looking for a charger. I sound old.

Leaving any Lipo plugged into the charger after it's charged is asking for it.
Leaving any Lipo plugged into the ESC when you're not flying will ruin the Lipo.
Even the ON-OFF switch being OFF won't prevent the ESC from draining the battery below the level it can recover from.

Great news???

I never thought I experienced the battery performance I have seen others get on YouTube and such.

Soooo, I'm glad for this [recall] and will send all 3 of mine back ASAP!

I'm sure that the arrival of my battery return "envelopes" will coincide with the calmest winds S. Fla. has ever experienced and I, of course, will be GROUNDED!

Of course...the 2 lipos I bought are in the recall...grounded with the only one of my two axes flying...lol...guess it's time to get the other one up and running again...on that one I am using the evo light 1340's. Runs great with them.

I've been using the MegaPower 1350mah 11.1v 20C 3 cell Lipo's from Helidirect, they're around 35 bucks a pop, will give a stock AXE CP around 12-16 minute flights, BL motor users get a little less on flight time. They are the biggest BANG for your buck! I've got an array of the 1350mah MP lipo's, (2) 15C's & (4) 20C's.
I'm using (2) of the ALIGN A/C Balance chargers # RCC-4CX, will charge up to a 4 cell Lipo, have a built in fan, and work GREAT for the $55 they cost, once again from HeliDirect.

Another good idea is to change from those "Light-Duty" DEAN's MICRO PLUG connectors to the DEAN's ULTRA PLUGS!!!!
