Sam and Glenn, your tail kits are on their way. Vic (Redr00ster), if you're out there, I need your shipping address! Anyone have Vic's email addy? Richard and Randy, did you guys get your kits yet?

Chad

Chad,

I found the tail kit at home after being away for more than a week!

Simply beautiful work!

Thanks for your considerable efforts! The parts are better than 99% of the kits I've built in 30 years of RCing....... The plans and CD are over the top and much appreciated....... I can't wait to build it..... I'm gonna try out Mig welding the horn........ I'll have it out tomorrow for something else, so it will be no biggie to try it out......

I have been busy lately with work and my second job (my band), so NO RC stuff at all.... I am going to try to get out to the field with my son tomorrow.....

I've begun the process of drawing out the instrument panel and instruments. Just as with my Spitfire panel I will draw a full color graphic of each instrument specific to the Corsair. I realize there may be some variations from one Corsair to the next and we can customize if necessary. Otherwise I will try and do my best to make a panel specific to the F4U-1a. I would also like to get started on a design for the seat but I'm seriously lacking in documentation for that item so any and all help appreciated.

Danny, beautiful job on the joiner wire. Want to make about a dozen more?!!!

Glenn, thanks for the kudos and I'm glad you are happy with your kits. Good luck at the flying field!

Chad, can you post a (another in case I'm too lazy to scan the thread) link to your Spitfire cockpit build?

Thanks,
Tom

I will first have to buy a better torch.
The one I'm using is from Proxxon, it uses cigarettelighter-gas as fuel which is just barely hot enough for silversolder.
I used almost 2 full fillings to just make the silver on the elevator-rod hot enough again to start to flow.

So I'm going to look in the DIY shops for a small torch on acetylene and oxygen.

Danny

What are you guys using for hinges? If you are going to use Robart hinges what size will you get?
Also, what are you using for the hinge blocks? I have read where some people use balsa and cut the blocks into small sections then glue them together with the grains crossed for added strength.

Tom, I don't have a build thread per se for the Spitfire cockpit. The first link below is to the instructions that I provide with the Spitfire cockpit kit which show exactly how it is put together. The second link is to a few pictures of my prototype cockpit parts on a friend's web site. The seat that I make now is vac-formed rather than folded matte board and is much more detailed than what is in these pics. I will be vac forming the Corsair seat in the same manner.

Here are some pictures of a seat from the FG-1D being restored in Cincinnati. The tick marks on the measuring stick are in inches. I'm not yet accustom to metric...
Just in case you are interested, this FG-1D flew in the "Baa Baa Black Sheep" movie and the TV show. It was fitted with a smoke system and was the Corsair that was always getting "shot down".

These are some of the pictures from the "Corsair Graveyard" that I visited and that Tom noted in an earlier post. Here is a link if you want to see some other "out of the plane" pictures:
Corsair Graveyard

The last 3 pictures were emailed to me some time ago. I do not recall the source.

Thanks Richard, those will do nicely. I did visit the "Corsair Graveyard" link but I did not see the seat pics that you posted above among the images. Are they in another of your Photobucket albums or am I just missing something?
