Gents,

I am back from LA, where I checked the shipping prices, and offcourse I have left the piece of paper I wrote it all down on in the hotel...

So please look at the following list and find your total price:
Riddle4U 1 elevator , 0 rudder - $15.45
Rwright142- 1 elevator , 1 rudder - $23.24
Chad 1 elevator , 1 rudder - $23.24
GRH_70- 1 elevator , 1 rudder - $23.24
Rustypep 2 elevator , 2 rudder - $41.42
Daddysam 2 elevator , 2 rudder - $41.42
Redrooster 2 elevator , 2 rudder - $41.42
Tripower455 2 elevator , 2 rudder - $41.42
Joe_snaproll 1 elevator , 1 rudder - $23.24
JerryM- 1 elevator , 1 rudder - $23.24

Please everyone use paypal and transfer the money to my account: belgarath406@gmx.net

The control horns that have been payed for will be shipped on October 29th when I'll be back in LA.

Cheers,

Gentlemen,

I feel that I owe you an apology, a resignation and an offer. A while back, I took on the responsibility of designing the sliding canopy prototype. Danny had some good ideas that I had in my head about the design. Unexepectedly, I was given a 1939 wooden boat by my family, and I find that every hour and free weekend is devoted right now to getting that boat refurbished and back into the water. So with your permission, I would like to resign on the lead role on the sliding canopy and get out of the way of progress on that part. Whoever takes up the lead on this part will get from me:

  • The prototypes of the formers and the canopy that Chad has created.
  • The slotted rails and sliders that we have built
  • The sail winch servo
  • All of the consultation that you want about how I think this should work

Bottom Line: I'm totally committed to this project, but I feel that my immediate obligations are getting in the way of the winter building season. I've dropped the rifle. Who will pick it up?

Tom

Tom,

She's a real beauty so I understand completely. Especially since it has been in your family for a long time.
If no one else wants the sliding canopy lead I'll take it. It goes hand in hand with the cockpit kit and was one of the things I was working on anyway. I would prefer if someone else would take the lead because I am in the middle of a move and it will be several weeks before I will be able to show any progress. But, it no one else volunteers in the next couple of days then I'll take the ball, er I mean rifle .

Tom, I'm at that point in the construction of my fuselage and I can't finish the design and make any more fuselage kits until the slide mechanisim is finalised so, unless someone else is really jonesing to do it, I will take on the project. No need to apologize either, this is a hobby and probably not the only one most of us engage in. Enjoy your new toy and get back to the Corsair when it suits you.

Thanks, guys.

Why don't you chat amongst yourselves and let me know where to send the bits.

My votes goes for Chad so he can finalize the design.

I will give Chad a buzz tonight and talk about the canopy mechanism. I already started on the fuse prototype that Chad sent me and we have been talking a little behind the scenes. Maybe we can work on that together as we tweak the fuse. You guys are going to like the fuse. If I was in a little less hurry I would have taken a few pics going through the first few steps. I will post a few pics later tonight.

The one thing we have talked about is how to keep the servos for the elevator, rudder, and tailwheel in the front to keep weight out of the tail while at the same time trying to avoid going through the middle of the cockpit with control rods. I am with Chad in thinking about using a bellcrank system behind the cockpit. I almost did that on my Spit but went with pull pull instead. If we use that control system, we will need to work that around whatever mechanism we finalize for the canopy. We could run the controls along the fuse sides and behind the cockpit side panels to the bellcranks and then have a straight shot from there. What do you guys think about that concept? Or do you not care about control rods running through the middle of the cockpit? I believe the cockpit side panels will hide most if not all of it.

Richard, how do you like the sidewalls that came with the Viking kit?

The Viking walls are OK but I'm making my own - just because I want to get more accurate spacing of the braces and my cockpit will be once piece walls and floor.

My idea for the control rods is similar to yours with the exception of the elevator. I was planning on actually having that one become part of the control stick. When the elevator moves, the control stick will move too. I'm planning on that method because my pilot's hand will be fixed onto the stick so his arm will move with the elevator. That will give the appearance of the pilot moving the stick. His left hand will be on the throttle and work the same way.

As for ailerons I like the idea of passing the control rods behind the side panels. There will be plenty of room. I would like to see a conceptual design if you have one.

The rudder could have pull/pull cables that could be fed through the cockpit to actually look like the real thing.

Hi Everyone, Here is my mock up of what I think I'm going to do with my robart 148 retracts to make them look a little more scale.I made a exact copy of the lower strut out of doweling, and I used some micoballoons and epoxy to get the shape. I ordered a extra link mount to cut up,took off the torque link mounting tubes, and I ground down the link bolt and drilled a hole threw it for the torque link mounting shaft.turned it around, quick shot of primer,And put it together and this is what it looked like. The upper ring at the top torque link is just tape for now,for the look.I will make something for it later. I was going to make a metal cast of the part ,still might .But I think I'll just glob on some JB weld to the robart lower oleo and shape it like I did in the mock up. My question to you fellas ,will the JB weld hold up and stay on to the robart part. Have never used it for something like that. I can add the tow clasps later and even mock break lines,Or even a fake compressing rods.

The one picture Has a photo copy of thescaleman's back hub ,and my pilot . Also the mesh screen beside it is from a old cd boom box,I thought it looked real close to the intercooler screens in the wing. Nice little round holes. And the last picture is the stock 148 on the left and the made over one is on the right.

Joe
