24 pilots, 78 degrees F., clear blue skies, a 5-7 MPH breeze right down the runway, and a Fast Time by Chuck Waller of 1:25 on a 396 ft., 2 pole course really started the 2008 Club 40 Racing Season off perfectly! We ran 4 rounds, 5 heats per round of Advanced, and 4 rounds of Novice plus a Novice Main and E, D, C, B, and the A Main.

Stay tuned for the Official Race Results and more info...

What a great day! Fantastic weather and some of the closest racing we have had to date!

What a great start to the '08 season.

We had several new racers join the group including "Fast" Freddy French of Giant scale race fame. Unfortunately, Freddy got in my way on the start in the second heat! Sorry!!! You would think I would be nice to a newcomer, right??? WRONG!!!

Congradulations to Chuck Esh on his first win in Club 40!! Chuck came up from Novice class last year and "Whooped' up" on all the " Big Dogs" in Advanced today. Chuck has been making the very nice coasters we have been giving out to winners in all classes and Fast times. This time he got to take home one of his own!

Also, a great thanks to Glen Elkins of Round Rock hobbies for 3 - $25.00 gift certificates for the winners in the "A" main. We also had a kit donated by Jason Oliver(?) which went to Chuck Esh.

Another thanks to Powermaster for sponsoring the fuel today. Several gallons were given to our volunteer officials and more were raffled off to pilots.

From the comments I heard, every one had a lot of fun. Hope some others will come and join us at the next race, May 3rd at Seguin.

See you there!!

More to follow.....

View from Cut Judge chair:
Great day! And best start of a season yet!
Pilots were looking good - many were tight in the turns (ok, a few TOO tight! ).

And we had an 11 year old flying better then some "more experienced" thumbs.
Too bad he flamed out during the Novice Main.
See ya at the races,
Crash

Sounds like a great day, guys. Wish I could have been there.

Our grandson had his first haircut yesterday. Video to whomever would want it.

I do have a set of pylons built. Planning to go fly today at a field in the next county. Ours is still toooo muddy. Can't even drive to it.

Best to all.

As far as I can remember, we reached another milestone yesterday.

A full race with NO airborne crashes or mid air collisions! As far as I remember, there was only 1 plane damaged all day and that was on the ground at the start! (Sorry Freddy!) Several planes were taken out of competition due to mechanical problems such as broken throttle arms, malfunctioning servo's etc.

1 pilot did damage 2 planes (on landing) during practice but found out later that his transmitter antenna was touching the pilot fence (chain link) during his landing approaches.

Great Race Day in Austin; I was hoping for an Award for Best Canadian Performance; Team Canada was happy with going home with every thing intact and ready for the next race.
