I got a chance to examine the QQ Python on display at the Toledo Expo and noticed a very clever way of making a baffle for the cowl. It looks like QQ used a sponge foam material between the cowl and the engine to direct the airflow oner the engine. Does anyone know what type of sponge foam material this is?

I will post pictures of this and the method later. To answer your question is the same foam that comes in TX cases.

I too saw that foam installed on several planes in QQ booth and would like to see how it was done. Neat and simple. As long as it does not melt to the cylinder heads.

Well I just completed the baffling on my Python for a DA100. As mentioned in the manual I used 1/8" balsa wood sheeting and cut a pattern to make it fit around the cylinders. I glued a 1/4 X 1/4 Spruce piece across the opening in cowl to glue the balsa sheet stock to, this straightened out the slight bulge in the front part of the cowl and makes it really easy to do the baffling. I glued the sheet stock to this 1/4 X 1/4 piece as well as the edges of the cowl. Held in place with epoxy it should hold. I will posts pictures once the paint dries... There is very little area for the cooling air to go but over the cylinder heads, which of course is exactly what we want. The foam idea sounds like a sound one, would like to see pictures of that method as well.

Thanks Reza! When I saw how it was done, I just went Duh!
By the way, I had been sitting on the fence with the Python. I have been so pleased with my 86" QQ Yak that I couldn't hold out any longer. Great plane, great people, great deal.

Will you be posting info on mounting the DA 85 in the python 100? I just purchased one from Quique at the Toledo show and will be ready to mount the engine any day now with a slimline pitts muffler and was wondering if any special considerations for this set up. Thanks Roy
