Now that the epoxy has cured and is part of the fuselage, I am bolting it onto the plane as well.
I drilled the holes when I was considering making the center section of the wing removable so I'm using them.
The small protrusion in the cabin roof is where the "Y" harness for the ailerons will enter the plane to go to the receiver.

I have just found your thread about wanting the Bud Nosen Aeronca. The thought comes to mind "be careful what you want, you may get it". I too wanted this kit for years. I finally got one. Six months and a lot of hard work later I was wishing I had never found one. I did persevere and was glad I did. The final model was worth all the toil and sweat it took to build it. I wish I had found your thread at its start. I would have been glad to have sent some pattern pieces that I had to fabricate to "get it right". One thing I did that I would suggest is that you for the vertical stabilizer to match a later Champ. This was a later model that featured a larger engine and therefore need a bigger vertical stab. I used the plans from an old Comet kit to get the right shape. It of course had to be enlarged but seemed to be correct. Also, I used a method of constructing the seat frames to look very much like the real ones. I have attached some shots showing what I mean. Mine is covered with Coverite and painted with Sig dope. I like to look of real dope on an old fabricate model.
I must say that I am very proud of how mine turned out. It is a beautiful ship and fly's very well. Remember, this ship is flown mainly with the rudder. Put very little down aileron and lots of up.
I will be glad to help any way I can.
Jim Walton

Thanks, Jim.
I like the looks of that tail.
At least it isn't to late for me to make a modification.
I'm not going for much detail on this one. I think your seats look great too. I won't be doing that in this plane but I can use it for future planes.
There is one thing that I have learned from writing a build thread. I want to always be posting something therefor I don't think things through as I normally would.
Rushing is a bad thing.
Now that I am into the nitty gritty of the small stuff I am going to slow down.
Thanks for offering the help.
I really like that tail.

Jim,
How did you build up that gentle curve to the vertical stab?
Is it solid or just stretched fabric over a series of formers?
It is concave so I really would like to know.

I finally got around to installing the aileron servos and the control horns.

NOTE: If you want to build a really detailed Champ try this Site: http://www.aeronca.com/cgi-bin/pics/picture_query.asp

By choosing items with a selected search you can see whole airplane pictures or pictures of part in detail.

There is even such a thing as a Tri-Champ! Has nose gear!

Hi Sebo,

The vertical stab is built up just like the one in the plan. I just added outline structure. The covering is done in one piece. That is, one piece covering one half of the top of the fuselage behind the wing back to and including the side of the stab. It seems hard to do, but it goes on easy (It does help to have two additional hands available). Be sure to apply Stix-it or Balsarite to the structure before ironing on. Using this method is really worth the extra effort. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Thanks, I may get back to you when I am ready to work on that area again.
As far as the 2 extra hands go, I don't have them. Do you think my feet will work?

Ron, did you quit on us? No pictures for awhile. Did you finish the plane?

No, Gentlemen, I did not quit on you.
I took a much needed and deserved vacation for over 20 days in Montana. Did a lot of fishing but caught only 20 or so fish.
I just got back 2 days ago. As soon as I get things back in order (a couple of days) I will continue on the build.
Until then, enjoy my vacation with me.
See the guy in the boat? He is a wildlife officer. He is writing a ticket for us. We did not have the proper floatation devices on board our boat...they were in the truck. $45.
I hooked a 44 inch pike on a trout rod with 4 pound line. Fought him for 10 or 15 minutes and had him beside the boat when we realized that our little trout net wouldn't even hold his head. Wound up losing him at boat side. It was still a lot of fun.
Give me 2 days and I will be back on the plane.
Thanks,
Ron

Ron,
Judging by those pictures, that is one beautiful place to take a vacation.

Thanks for the link on the Aeronca pictures. I will put it to use.

Hi, All. I've been working on getting caught up around here. Had to get a cutter and bailer in here to get the grass into shape. While doing so I found out that Millers (moths) decided that my grass looked good for grazing in several areas. It is almost dead.
Edged the sidwalks, weed wacked the really high stuff, washed clothes (I'm divorced now....couldn't have made the trip if I wasn't), did grocery shopping and banking. I'm doing the bills now.
I should be ready to start on the Aeronca again tomorrow evening.
I'm getting excited about getting into it again.
