I thought it might be fun to start a thread where we could all laugh about our RC experiences as they relate to the "boys in brown"...

Here is my most recent:
it is (was) a replacement fuse for a Showtime 90...and yes, that is a boot print

A friend of mine got a box in decent shape, and was all excited with it. He had ordered a FuntanaS90. He pulled the plane out of the box, looked at how to put the vertical stab on the fuse...when he noticed that it was supposed to already be attached. He grabbed the back of the fuse...yup, you guessed! The entire inside of the empanage was crushed, only held together by the monokote. He fixed it, flew it, and then destroyed the wings. So he ordered a replacement wing for his FuntanaS 90. A couple weeks later shows up an immaculate box. He picks out the wings, giddy as all to get it together. Needless to say, the inside of the wing was a monokote-bag filled with balsa splinters. Can anyone say bad luck? It looked like the insides were put in a blender!
No pix, but I think it's a great story.

I know the feeling! The pics above were of a fuse sent to replace the orginal fuse...which was damaged in shipping. The really funny part is that the next one they sent had a manufacturing defect...and it's replacement was...you guessed it! Damaged in shipping! I gave them one more shot at getting it right...shipping damage again! So, I finally called and asked for a refund...which was denied (I was offered a credit for a different ARF, but would have had to send the orginal back @ my expense...yeah right) Anyways...to make a long story short, I just pieced together a couple different fusalages into one good one. Now I have a room full of spare fuses

Anybody want to buy a few "slightly damaged" fuses for a H9 Showtime 90? I have four extra ones!

Several years ago my son ordered a profile kit for me for Christmas. When it arrived at his house the box was folded in half with truck tire marks across the middle. My son did not even bother talking to UPS. Fortunately the company was nice enough to replace the kit even though they were not at fault. The upside was that we were able to build a second plane from the parts salvaged out of the first kit.

It really bunches my undies when the Brown Gorillas drop packages at your door then run! I have a UPS driver that I broke of the habit of throwing packages at my dooor and running. I was in my garage working when he stopped ran halfway to my doorway and threw my package. I launched a 3 ft piece of 2x4 into his truck making a hell of a noise! He snapped with what was that for?? I replied with you do that with my packagesjust returning the favor! Work must have gotten out cuz every package is handed to someone or not delivered at all. Worst package I received was a 3ft long kit box folded to the shape of a carpenters square-he had the claim paperwork in hand as he handed me the package. Over the years we (UPS driver) have become friends and I tought him to fly RC. He now knows the value of those plain brown wrapped boxes now!

Royal Snail -er, i mean Royal Mail isnt so bad over here, it either arrives or it doesnt

ive only ever lost a servo and a spur gear in the post, both times the seller was kind enough to send a replacement and a few months later the original packaged resurfaced

my postie either leaves the package in the garage (i sometimes leave a note if im expecting a parcel and leave the garage unlocked) or goes to the neighbours and leaves it there. then again i go to the LHS for most of my stuff as its usually cheaper

i have never had a single issue with ups, only a couple of problems with the us postal service, and not but a couple of successful deliveries with fedex!! all the rest of the items i have ever had shipped with fedex have been damaged or lost and i have only had one claim that was honored by them and that was after their legendary 6 month claim evaluation!

needless to say i never will use fedex again, unless i get something sent to me and i can't control it, even then i expect the item to be damaged or lost!

I had an excellent run of luck with ups, then it went to pieces (literally) the worst of which was the fact that I had waited for over a year watching tower for a slightly damaged GP p6e, I don't mind rebuilding to save a few bucks..finally after no real deals they listed one with one tiny part missing.. So I thought ok, I never pay this much, but I will buy it. The box shows up shaped like a question mark. Inside all four wings are broke, and the fuse is competly smashed leaving about 8 inchs of good wood in the front, connected to 8inchs of wood in the back with only pushrods and monokote holding them together !

I was so disgusted, here I had been trying to get one to rebuild, and the first one that comes along was the one I had almost paid full price on ! It was a shame they wouldn't even let me send pics of it , and give me a deal.. So they ended paying shipping back on it and I assume it went mostly in a dumpster...man was it hurt.. 50 bucks for the glass parts would have been charitable...

Packaging has a lot to do with it as well. No excuse for shops and businesses.
Since I've been getting more stuff (R/C and motorcycle) from private individuals through the "world's largest auction", I'm always amazed at what people think will pass for packaging.
One time I won a box full of old RCM backissues, and the guy shipped them (about 25 lbs originally) in a thin, weak old corrugated box. I was the proud recipient of a half box (about 10 lbs) of torn up mags and a wreck of a box all strangled with Government issued "repair" shipping tape. Nice.
Another time, I ordered a new drive sprocket for my motorcycle. It's about 3" in diameter, made of hardened steel, with teeth around the periphery. Maybe a pound or so. Kinda like a Chinese fighting star. The shipper placed the bare sprocket in a plain, light duty 9" x 12" paper envelope. I received a nice plain EMPTY envelope with a clean 3" slit in the end. Somewhere in a sorting room is a nice new Renthal sprocket. Nice.
OTOH, I've rec'd a couple of hundered other shipments in fine condition.
Barry

Canada Post is no better. I shipped a plane to the New Orleans last winter and took care double boxed it and insured the heck out of it. I even took pics while building the box and kept the buyer in the loop all along. The guy called me when the box arrived and showed me through his web cam what it looked like. I could not believe it!!!!! It was so smashed up it was barely recognizable. I started the claim with Canada Post and made a big enough of a stink that i got a supervisor on my file. In the end the guy get the insurance money that covered the replacement of the plane but it took 4 months of fighting with Canada Post. All my ads will now read LOCAL PICKUP ONLY!!!!!!!

I posted in the questions forum on how to get the UPS drive to stop leaving packages at the end of my driveway.

I have a long drive and if it snows just a little bit he leaves packages near a light pole out near the road. Every stinkin’ time I don’t see the package until the next morning when I’m leaving. Of course if it’s been snowing that pretty much means it’s below freezing as well, and three times now the package clearly states DO NOT FREEZE. Complaining doesn’t seem to help. I think this guy is just look for an excuse to shave a couple minutes off his route.

Not an RC thing but we''ve had a few bad UPS drivers at work..

We caught one throwing server boxes off the back of he truck.. We had a little chat about the $20,000 boxes she was dropping off the truck.

Another one left a $100,000 order of desktops and servers sitting in a public hallway.. Didn''t bother to even buzz the operators to let them know it was there.

ok guys i got one for ya. was shipping a big box from Wisconsin to new jersey. well needless to say the box got to the guys drive way and they broke it. so they threw it back on the truck and shipped it back to me. there was more tape the cardboard when i got it back and they managed to smash a hole in a solid metal plate that was at the top of the box. that was 3 months ago and still waiting on the claim to go through. Thanks for nothing UPS. maybe i should start returing the favor to there trucks.
