Status: offline 		Me and a buddy want to build a nitro hovercraft, we both have tons of experience in helis, planes, boats and trucks. All we can find are hovercraft with little cox engines. We would like to use something more like an os .61 or something. Anyone have any experience or good links? A link to a kit maybe as this is our first hovercraft so we do not have much experience with the whole concept. We are quick learners though. Thanks, Brett

It's not much, pretty small. We redesigned it. The first one had a 540 sized motor to push it and a 280 size motor to lift it. Not much but it moved, no steering though. I redesigned one had a 370 size motor to push down and I was going to mount a Mamba on the back but never got around to it. Have to figure a way out for steering before we do anything else.

Thats sounds like it is going to be cool, a .61, wow. Keep us posted on how its coming along. Ours wasn't that big so I dont really know what to tell you. Not sure what you would use for a second motor, you could maybe have some go out the back and some route down to lift it. That way you only have one motor and a motor like that should be enough depending on how big you make it.

Status: offline 		maybe a small ducted fan control line motor for the air cushion and then a ducted fan for thrust. the air cushion doesnt need all that much thrust.

Status: offline 		If he wants to mount a .61 motor on there with a gas tank and everything it might need a little more to push the air down. Might get kind of heavy.

Status: offline 		well, I was thinking something like this Hovercraft except 10 times bigger and bals instead of foam. Its expensive to guess and test when building stuff like this in a large scale so some general plan would be good. Anyone have any advice?

Status: offline 		I too am krazi about hovercrafts and wanted to build my own RC electric or gas powered so i did some research. The only good one i found was by QuickTechHobby.com and it had the US Navy's LCAC, and the Army's SK-5 Gunboat etc.... I ended up getting a gunboat and now im in the process of building a custom fan shroud and finding the electronice for maximum thrust and manouverability... I will post pictures when i can...

That website inspired me to build the Griffon 2000TD
If you mount a nitro on the pusher motor then you will have a nitro hovercraft... I think?


A video of one that proves the concept (although IDK whether the lifting motor is electric or whether it channels air from the nitro motor...)

Status: offline 		Thats what I was hinting at in the previous post, and some full size hovercraft operate that way, but with such a small scale that RC's work with, It would be hard to manuever (as soon as skirt is inflated, the hovercraft starts moving forward)
