Connect two LiPo Battery (7.4v and 11.1v) (Full Version)

Hi!
I have one simple question.
Is it possible (and safe) to connect two LiPo battery:

-one battery is 2 cells, 7,4v, 2250 mAh
-the second is 3 cells, 11,1v, 3900 mAh

How to connect it, the classic way: first battery +(red) connect to second battery -(black) wire???
Is that correct or is there some other metod???
Any suggestion will be appreciated.

It would not be good to connect in parallel because the high voltage one would overdischarge while it overcharged the lower voltage pack.

Even the series connection would be a bad idea because when used the smaller pack would get used up first causeing it to run low on voltage and damage resulting.

It would be OK to connect the two only in SERIES as long as the two packs had the same Mah capacity and discharge rating. Connecting them in PARALLEL will destroy them as the higher voltage one would overcharge the lower voltage pack and the higher voltage pack would over discharge.

OK, so what is a PARALLEL and what is SERIES connection???


and ih I have two battery with the same mAh, can I connect it??

If you don't know the difference between parallel and series, don't try it. Get some help.

I agree with geez, get some help.

If the packs are the same voltage (actual voltage) they can be hooked/used/charged in parallel.
If the packs are the same capacity then they can be hooked/used/charged in series. They should be exact same capacity and level of charge.

OK, so, how to connect two identical battery (11,1v 3900mAh, 3 cells in one battery)

Connecting packs in parallel combines the capacity of both packs. So if you have two packs that are both 3s 3000mAh and you connect them in parallel, you have a 3s2p 6000 mAh pack. This is done by simply connecting the positive on both packs together, and the negative from both packs together.

Connecting in series you would connect the positive of one pack to the negative of the other pack. This would give you the capacity of a single pack, but double the voltage.

Unless we know what you are looking for, it's hard to give you some advice. Are you trying to increase runtime, or increase voltage for more power ?
