Another flying season is finally here, well sort of (temps. were in the mid 40's but light winds). Hopefully in a few more weeks we will have some warmer weather. After a few flights my hands were getting pretty cold.......
I brought out one of my Yellow Spits. G-45 power and a great flyer as always.
Jeff Q. picked up a German Gotha bipe at an auction this winter. Previous owners said it was "unflyable" so Jeff had to buy it to prove them wrong. He ended up pulling over a pound and a half of lead out of the nose and it flew just great with a G-26. No wonder it was a handful before.....
Cal B. had out a new Fokker D-8. G-26 power as well. Nice maiden flight and another keeper.
Cal also had out his new Airworld Panther. JetCat Titan for power and impressive to say the least. He had a battery drop a cell so it didn't take to the air. Look for the maiden flight coming up soon.
The turnout was pretty light due to the cool temps but hopefully we'll have some warmer weather in a few weeks. Look for some interesting maidens coming up soon.
Dave

Hey Dave! Good to see youse guys back in action again. I know the weather has been a pain in the @#$% but it's almost over! Like you, we've had a few days here and there to get out and fly but not nearly enough! In fact, it's a blizzard outside right now. Cal's Panther looks great, and I'm sure you'll hear from Lora about selling her a Yellow Spit! Here's a vid of Clark and me getting ready for this summer...with Cal's B25, we should have a gaggle of at least 5 at WODenver in June. Can't wait!!

OK, another Tuesday in Minnie. Dave (a.k.a. Smurfjet) was M.I.A. today in recurrent training. My day for pictures. Good weather today with about a 10-15 mph wind right down the runway and 66 degrees. Not a good night for me, as you will see, but Russia did suffer set-backs ya know:
1. Dave K.'s Ziroli P-40 with a ZDZ100 inline twin and Robart retracts..sounds cool 2. Dave K.'s Me109. This is a Frankenschmidt, built from the same parts as mine. 106 inch span. He has a Q-100 in it with Shindin retracts. Really scoots with a Q-100...should blow the doors off my Frankenschmidt. His flies as good as mine. 3. Wayne G.'s Ziroli Texan with a G-62. This plane is about 13-15 years old with, I think, it's 3rd or 4th paint job. Nice flyer. Wayne also brought out his Ziroli DC-3. She was smashed all the way back to the fin last year, but the out panels survived. He rebuilt it and test ran the engines today, but put it away before I got a picture 4. Tom S. BAlsa USA triplane...not sure on power 5. Cal's Razor from Balsa USA with a G-26 6. Cal's Conachen Corsair. 101 inch span with a BME 102, I believe, and Robart retracts. Very nice plane. 7. My Ercoupe. This is a Jack Stafford with a MAgnum 40. I bought this turn key at our winter auction for $170, full turn-key. Fun flyer. Yellow fabric wing and Chrome monokote covering on the fuse.

Tonight, Russia suffered a set-back in fighter operations. I lost my Lavochkin LA-7 after 31 flights. Had a perfect take-off. About 20 feet in the air, off the end of the runway, it broke hard right, then left (aileron spazzed out). I was able to get it leveled, and it hit on the gear and bottom of the cowl. The wing was torn off and hit a tree. The fuse suffered minor damage and is still good. Someday, I will build a new wing and get this bird back in the air. It was a great flyer. Built from Dave Andersen plnas, with a 96 inch span, Eric Malkerson retracts, Shindin struts and a Brisson 4.2 for power. I loved this plane. Sorry Steve (you know who you are).
Before and After (Ivan survived):

I leave you guys for one week and look what happens. I'm betting you already have a new wing cut for the LA-7 don't you Jeff? I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it fly again this summer.......

Last night turned out to be a great flying day. Temps started in the high 40's but I think it must have been over 50 by the time we were packing up.
Dave K. with his old Mr. Mulligan converted to a Military bird. G-62 power. I can't remember how old it is but I think it's somewhere around 12-15 years old.
Wayne brought out his Ziroli P-40 powered by a G-62. Also "test" flew his Ziroli C-47 after a rebuild from last summer. He had an engine out and basically saved the tail group. Everything else is new. G-38 power and he put a great re-maiden flight on it. Nice job Wayne.....
Cal and I brought out Yellow Spits. Cal's new spitfire has a G-38 for power. Great flyer.
Jeff brought out his Ziroli Corsair with 3w-75 power. He put on a few great flights.
Cal and Tom also had out some WWI birds. Cal has a scratch built D8 and Tom was flying a
