I'm moving to a new city that races Club 40, they allow the ax46 as well as the TTpro46. I have not had a chance to see the TT pro 46 run against a 46ax, On a Sky Raider which is the faster of the two anyone got answers? Thanks!

I don't believe you will get a very definitive answer to this as whoever owns one of the two brands will claim more power. The best answer I can give you on this is to find these two engines and hope that both engines are in equal running condition then compare. You need to get a tachometer and only use one propeller for both engines. Same fuel as well. Run up each engine to peak using the tach then swap that prop onto the other engine and do the same. Same day and time of day will equalize your test even more. You can make the test more definitive by changing glow plugs until you find what each engine wants for that prop and fuel. Try to make the physical engine the only variable in the test with everything else being equal. After this YOU will be the expert and can let us know! I have one of each at the house and would like to know as well but alas the OS is waiting for bearings.

By the time you put aftermarket bearings in the TT you will still be a bit cheaper than the OS. I am very happy with all the TT engines I have and would put the TT.46 up against an AX anytime. As far as faster in a race, work on your pilot skills...the engine won't win it for you in C-40

Of the 2 motors you listed, I am not sure which would be fastest...BUT, I would put my TT Pro 40 powered LA racer against either one on the same plane (on the 400 ft. course)!

I have run against, and lapped, SRM 2's with the FX 46 while using a totally stock TT Pro 40.

A much longer course MIGHT give a slight advantage to the larger motor, but it would be minor.

Thanks guys, I'm thinking that to stay on the good side of my better half (who is my caller, so she knows how much this stuff costs!!) I'll start with one of our 424 engines. Besides she's still not impressed that I ordered a new 428 plane, just as we started packing for our move. Wish me luck on this one!

GF,
You fine tuned my comment. The TT.40 is an excellent engine and works for two classes...perfect.

Ok, I put one of my TT.40 424 engines on it. What are you using for props? They don't restrict to 9x6 in their C40 class.

We are restircted to 9X6 APC. The Texas and Fla guys like 10X5 too.

It depends a lot on the course length. On the shorter courses, around 400 ft., most of our pilots use the 10x5 APC. Some pilots that fly an extreemely tight course prefer the 10x4 APC as it looses even less speed in the tight turns.

On a longer course, 500 ft. plus, A 10x6 apc would give you a little more speed between the pylons.

The big thing is RPM and prop disk. The larger prop disk on the 10 inch prop gives much better acceleration coming out of the turns.

You can use a little smaller prop on the LA Racer due to the more streamlined nose area. I often use a *@@x$ (oops, that is a secret!) to get max speed on the LA Racer.

Good luck!

I wouldn''t use the 10x6. I tried one on my WM T-34/46AX and it really loads the motor down compared to the 10x5 or the 9.5x6. You''ll lose a ton of speed out of the corners.

My $.02

I''ve found that on a Raider the 10x4 works best on the short course that we''re running (400''). You''ll have pretty close to the same speed on the straights, but the plane will keep more speed in the corner as Gunfighter said. Additionally it pulls much better coming out of the corner.
