The pictures pretty much say it all. I salvaged all the radio gear, servos, engine, etc. But the airframe, wing, etc., were toast.

Yeah... I was training my 24 year old son. He was turning to final approach and overshot the turn. Instead of pulling out of the turn lined up with the runway, he kept turning and headed right for a tree. I told him to turn back the other way (not because of the tree, but because he wasn't lined up with the runway) but it was too little too late. He was on a buddy box, so ultimately it was my fault for not taking over control when I should have. I wouldn't have taken the plane over that way had I been flying primary on it, but to be honest - I didn't see that it was that close to the tree either.

Prop still looks good. Was that a Goldberg Eagle, for any chance? Was the landing gear too bent to be useful? It looks like your shear webs held up real good, 'cause that's all I see that's left of the wing!

Yes, that was an Eagle 2. I've had it on a shelf for 15 years, and just completed it last summer. That plane had less than 10 - 15 flights on it. I was bummed. All the landing gear was in good shape, prop is fine. It wasn't so much the crash into the tree that finished it off, it was the getting it out of the tree that killed it. It was wedged in the crotch of the tree, way up high. We had to use an extension ladder, then have a guy climb the tree past that... then we gave him about 20' worth of connected polls for him to reach it. He had to basicaly bat it out of the crotch of the tree like a pinata!

NorfolkSouthern... being from Ann Arbor, my wing covering design on the Dazzler should look pretty familiar to you, eh?

I think you mentioned about the U of M color scheme some place else in the forum. I also liked the color scheme of your Eagle, or what's left of it. Oh heck, just build another one!

Hey, dig the rest back out of the trash and cut some sticks for mixing epoxy. Could be worse, your engine and radio could still be up in the tree!

We have a line of pine trees at our field that have a taste for airplanes. Hitting them is not the problem. Getting them down is.

Actualy, I did go back and pull what was left of the fuse/cockpit area out of the trash. I figured I would use it to hold nails, or nuts and bolts in my workshop... that sort of stuff.

Starfire, Sorry to see it happen. I had just come to the field when you were pulling it out of the tree with the pole. Your not the first to hit that tree, Tom Davis hit it twice. By the way are you part of our club at the Middle grounds, sorry but I dont recognize you? If not please consider joining we need all the new members we can get.

All it takes is time and money...or is that air speed and money. Well, money...anyway.
