I've never really had problems with batteries before with my old Novak SS5800 set up. Today I got the Castle Creations Mamba Max 7700 and I hooked up my cheap Tower Hobbies 7cell NiCad battery pack (only pack I had charged) and, well, they blew up

So my questions are:
1. I have a 7 cell NiMH Venom battery pack I just got the other day, should I attempt to use this one or will it blow up too?
2. What brand batteries should I get?
3. Where can I order the batteries?
4. Does it matter what configuration I make the battery packs (as in 2 rows parallel to each other, or each battery connected with the bars, etc.)

I found out that Castle Creations recommends Intellect batteries (as well as a couple others) but I just want to make sure those are adequate before I drop another $100 on them. I want to make 1 or 2 8 cell packs.

Thank you!

I just ordered the Ener-G 4600 matched cell pack sxs. Wow what I difference it made for me. I ma new to this all and was running my original Venom 1800 hahaha and my friends GP3300's. The 3300's we ok but the castle stuttered/lagged. Once I got the 4600 with a deans connect problem solved. My Evader became a whole new beast. I am really digging for now. I have to change out the idler gear as I chewed a few teeth today. My friend has the Novak SS5800 runds great on those battereis but it would seem that the Castle is much more sensitive. If you can adjust the setting for the battery with the castle link do so for now.

Evader EXT Sideinder 5700 Ener-G sxs 6 cell 4600, on my friends charger thees batteries will take 5100mah charge!!

His Novak does not even feel warm were as the Castle is running about 145 degrees with the stock setup 1888.

1-You could try the venoms. Ive ran venom 2 6-cell packs with my 5700. ! got a little to hot but the other worked for a while. I only used them for a few runs.

2-EP and EnerG cells are doing pretty good and becoming popular. Heres a good place to get EnerG

4- You should get the Side by side with battery bars.

Thanks for the quick replies!

I forgot to mention that I do have deans plugs on everything.

Could the cheap battery cause the car to stutter while accelerating? I'm hoping better batteries solve the problems I'm having right now.

OK, I got it figured out. For anyone who wants to know.........

I got the battery pack I ordered from cheapbatterypacks.com (8cell 4500mah) and it solved all the problems.

Also, there is a setting in the software that determines how much startup power the motor can get. Putting it down to medium instead of high solved a lot of it with my Venom battery. I found out that when it''s on high, and sometimes on medium, the voltage drops so much under full throttle that the ESC doesn''t have enough voltage and it resets, causing the "glitching".

So basically it was just an issue with the batteries.

Now I have to go replace the spur gear I stripped in 20 minutes and lock the diffs........probably should order some new tires too.........lol
