betapilot -> Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/13/2008 5:44:45 AM)

Well, here we go again, same story different heli. I am hoping this thread will serve the same purpose as the King V2 tuner thread, to be informative and a place for everybody to share great ideas about how-to's and upgrades for these killer birds. I am hoping to keep this thread going so all participation is welcome but for everybodies sake, please use good manners when participating.

A little about where I hope to go here, I know the shark and its bretheren have a couple of areas of concern out of the box and with parts availability with the latter being the most important. I think anyone can just replace parts with parts that are no better, but want I want to do here is explore what parts interchange and what upgrades work. With that said, lets all go wreck our sharks so we can find out what kind of stuff we can make work, lol.

betapilot -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/14/2008 6:12:08 AM)

Okay, I have received a couple of emails asking what the eagle is, so here are some pics and a couple of differences that I have found.
The eagle comes with a much better canopy, it is fiberglass and usually not broken, lol. It also comes with an aluminum carry case which is cool, but as far as everything else it is pretty much a shark with different color cnc. It is not made or marketed by art tech but has the art tech hh gyro and art tech radio/rec. on it as well. It runs the same (as far as I can see) brushless system and flies exactly the same but the biggies is it the price is around $50 bucks less than a shark which makes it a pretty good deal and since parts are pretty much interchangeable you should not have any worries when the inevitable pays you a visit.

Demo Up -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/14/2008 3:48:38 PM)

Nice job, Betapilot. I just wanted to start a list right here of the helicopters that we've found that share this same "lineage", so as to avoid confusion that is popping up on some other threads on rcuniverse. I think you're cool with that, so here goes...

I think a good place to start is to list the kits that the helis in this family are based on. We know that at least one source of the kits is distributing under the Hone name, so I'll reference Hone's naming scheme when I get to the RTF's, simply to have a definitive way to reference them and try to keep it clear for readers. The Hone website lists six models, HF-001, HF-002, HF-003, HF-004, HF-005 and HF-006. At a later date, I'll try to do some simple groupings so you can know what is common and what is different across them all. Here is the Hone website that lists the six kits, go there for more info: www.china-rc-model.com

Now, to list the RTF versions of these kits that are being sold so far:

- The Art-Tech Shark 450. Sold by Art-Tech only as an RTF, this is simply Art-Tech's RTF build of the HF-006 airframe kit.

- The Eagle King, mentioned by Betapilot above. This is simply an RTF build of the HF-001 airframe kit.

memphistn -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/15/2008 5:28:49 AM)

I think the hone looks like a nice model, I will have to pick one up!! I just got the shark 450 cf helicopter from ultimaterchobby on the web, it was $340 shipped so I thought that was a good deal. I think once I wreck my shark which I know will happen, I can take the electronics out and put them in a hone arf!

Demo Up -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/15/2008 6:06:19 AM)

Good deal, Memphis. You'll enjoy it, it's a very nice bird! I'm currently flying the Hone HF-003 that I built, and am going to get either a -006 or -001 for either a backup or a next bird to build, I can't decide.

Some other people may try to tell you that the Hone HF-006 kit isn't a true "Shark 450", and they're right, sort of. The "Shark" per se only comes as an RTF from Art-Tech. The kits are all distributed as a different name, like Hone HF-006's. You may find that certain retailers slap the Shark name on it, no harm done. Hone, Shark, it's all the same thing, call it what you will, it doesn't matter. What does matter, we all have a vested interest in the success of the underlying design, what Betapilot and I call the "narrow-frame" heli. The T-rex and its clones share a "wide-frame" design.

Happy flying! Post some pics!

betapilot -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/15/2008 6:08:40 AM)

I flew the eagle which is basically the hone 001 and it flies great. I upgraded tow 001''s with the danlion motor and esc for a couple of customers and they are giving the birds awesome reviews. I am going to be working up a frankenstein based off of these chassis'' and it ought to be a pretty good flyer, it is amazing what happens to a shark when you give it some power to play with. I am not too happy with the stock set-up, it seems a little weak in the knees for me, a good esc with a clean bec makes a bunch of difference in how crisp the servos are.

Look on your shark and tell me what your aileron and elevator servos are. Are they 90''s or 100''s and do they fit well at the top port side of teh heli, I have not seen one yet that the servo fits flush, but the 90 fits in there perfect but is supposedly only used for the tail since the gyro is hh.

Demo Up -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/15/2008 6:13:28 AM)

Hey, Beta. So that separate BEC on my Hobbywing 30A ESC is contributing to the crisp servo response I''m seeing? Sweet...

betapilot -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/15/2008 6:13:57 AM)

I should have the list up soon, I have the arf 006 and the 001 listed and the eagle king listed but am still working on getting all of the parts listed. Like I said, I will be concentrating on upgrades more than stock parts but will definitely be keeping a supply of the proprietary parts in both colors. I think it would be cool if they would do something different like orange or a goodlooking bright green cnc, lol. I will certainly be keeping some killer canopies for the shark owners, lol, demo knows that story, lol.

betapilot -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/15/2008 6:16:24 AM)

It should, it really cleans them up. You really notice it on something like a king that has been running the esky b/l set-up and then going to something like the danlion or the hobbywing, it is incredible. Did you get your pinion straightened out, what did you end up going with?

Demo Up -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/15/2008 6:23:04 AM)

The 11 tooth pinion will be perfect with that Danlions KA-400H, like you said. I couldn''t do it tonite, had to do my friggin'' taxes, I''m a procrastinator!

betapilot -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/15/2008 6:53:20 AM)

Always file an extension, lol

I have run the 13t but did not like it as much as the 11t so I have stuck with the 11t.

betapilot -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/15/2008 11:47:41 PM)

I want to welcome Memphistn to the club, he is a new shark owner and will hopefully be joining us for some good discussions.

I want to make something clear here, ANYONE is welcome here, even if you do not own a heli you are welcome to participate and interact here on our thread. Just cause I do not own a corvette does not mean I do not share the interest with people and same goes with helis. If you own a trex and want to talk about it, bring it on, you never know when a trex part may just work and be the best part for the job and the interaction and compilation of information is how we come up with solutions to our problems. I know I speak for everyone that will ever visit one of my threads when I say all are welcome and none will be condescended in here.

xodarap1 -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/23/2008 11:16:15 AM)

all are welcome

..are you sure? :) [:D]

Rusty, the Shark is flying well. I'm running a 12T on it now and had to dial down the power a bit in S2 mode cuz it was shaking while doing tail slides. I think the reason I still can't get it locked in like it was before is due to the tail arm not being correct. I've still got the stock arm with the micro heli tail box.. Which microheli or hdx tail arm is the correct one dude?

Memphistn, Welcome! If you are ever in Johnson City area, look me up.

Steve

cdr -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/24/2008 1:35:01 AM)

Howdy All. I am a Hone owner, not any of the versions that have been mentioned yet but a HF-005 nonetheless. It's a little different and I am liking it so far. Locating parts can be a struggle because of it's differences but not impossible. I'm glad to see this thread started and maybe a fellow 005 owner can chime in.

C

Demo Up -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/24/2008 1:53:13 AM)

Welcome, cdr. If you get a chance to post pics of your -005, I'd like to see it (I love seeing other helis). I hear good things about the -005 from the guys who bought 'em. I'm with you, I'd like other -005 owners to chime in here as well.

Still loving my -003, but I haven't crashed it yet, so parts are still a big concern of mine as well. Hopefully we can post substitution parts as we find 'em.

And good to see you again, Xodarap1!

betapilot -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/24/2008 2:39:56 AM)

Yes Dude, even we folk of lower character are welcome here, this is the melting pot for all of us outcasts that are not welcome on the other thread, lol. Just cause you have guns on your heli doesn't mean you can come in here and push people around though.

This is for everyone regardless of whether you own a hone/shark/eagle. The best replacement for the tail assy I have found is the HDX450-TSS, it is what I run and is the same one you are running xapper, the correct bell crank is HDX450-13b. I thought I sent you one when the other parts went your way, I will send it out in the am.

Xapper, how is the new megapuffer doing, I am sorry about you having to get another one but they backed up on their previous offer to do a different battery for replacement, they claim that Mega has cured their problems but I would like to know if that is fact. The two they sent for the 1800 replacements are going good so far but only have maybe three to five cycles so far. I got in some of the outrage 25c's and wow, all I can say is powerful, I think I will start carrying them since the 1800 is getting me about 6 minutes of "real flight" and about 8 minutes of dorking around and the power is there for sure.

CDR - If I am not mistaken, the head and tail are the same on your 005 as they are on the rest of them models, from what I see the only differences will be chassis parts and I am searching for the best replacements as we speak. I do know that if you are running the same 5mm main shaft that the 001 and the 006 run, then anything from align, art tech, and HDX will fit but may require lite adjustment to get perfect, I have already replaced the head on my first shark (don't ask) from a rookie mistake but it actualy worked out better I am just not sure if it is the servos I replaced the stockers with or the HDX head that I am using, either way the response is crisp and the performance is definitely better than stock.

xodarap1 -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/24/2008 4:51:41 AM)

The blade grips and FS combo is different than the stock setup but i was able to get them to fit but only about 2 threads of the FS are in the nuts on each side (secured with loctite)..and the only way i could get that much was by removing the black plastic spacers that go in behind the blade grips. The flybar doesn't flop loose like it did before, but it is flyable but the cyclic feels "sticky". We are still going to have to find a better FS to replace the stock one as these are too short man and the thrust bearings ride on part of the threaded area of the FS instead of on the smooth part.

Thanks for sendin out the bell crank thingy.. (i can never seem to remember what the heck that part is called lol) but i knew you would know what i meant. I did look at the HDX450 crank online but still wasn't sure if it would work because the microheli tail slider only has one ball link attachment point on the bottom and has no post on the other side of the slider. Well, i guess anything will be better than the stock bell crank with the microheli slide so it has to help and i'll give it a shot.

No worries about the mega power battery replacement man. I'm just happy to finally have that battery to use in the rotation again cuz i've been doing a lot of flying. The Mega has a "V2" printed on the side of it and it has performed well with no signs of puffin so far (only 12 cycles on it right now - all balanced and never over charged or discharged). I'll keep ya posted on it.. seems fine. I don't want to say more cuz i don't want to jinx myself lol.

Steve :)

betapilot -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/24/2008 5:09:48 PM)

I am sure I speak for everyone here when I say we love pics so post as many as you like, would love to see the bird.

cdr -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/25/2008 11:44:06 AM)

Ok here are some pics, I like looking at other helis myself. Regarding parts, I have had to replace a few so far and thru research and comparison with my buddy's Trex I am finding that Rusty is right. Short of the airframe most parts are the same as the 450 se. The mainshaft differs though because of the belt gear (rides above the main gear), don't know for sure but I believe it is the same as the Dragonus. Maybe the pics will add something....

betapilot -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/25/2008 6:26:35 PM)

Very cool, those are such good looking birds. The main on yours is similar to the Dragon but there is a sizable distance between your main gear and belt pulley and the dragon has the pulley sitting right above the main gear. Interesting you brought up the Dragonis since I just finished building one and am loving it, man this thing will hover like a cx and since I only go 3d by accident I cannot say anything about that, lol. I will say running patterns and just doing lite maneuvers is a breeze and it feels like if I could do it the heli would be more than capable of flipping around.

I will post some pics of my clear boom here shortly, it will only be partially installed but I will post reviews and more pics when I have had a chance to fly it, the first ones I experimented with were a disaster so hopefully these new improved models will work out better.

ginnz -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/25/2008 10:28:11 PM)

i have the shark 450 rtf, with spektrum installed. i broke my motor mount and cracked the motor, i cnc'd out my own mount at work (much stronger), and am running a cyclone mini heli punch motor now as a replacement, its very nice..... i got the mini heli punch for 49.99 (regular 89.99)...... -)

i love the shark 450, out of my 3 birds, its still my most stable/easiest to fly..... we'll at least tied with my BlackHawk 500 SE Pro -)

betapilot:

i bought 6 - 2100 MaH mega-power lipos from ka planes, and have about 30 cycles on them, there doing great....

betapilot -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/26/2008 3:59:55 AM)

Has anyone seen these, this looks very cool.

Demo Up -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/27/2008 3:23:31 AM)

Hmmm, I think the Defense Department boys in black suits will come visit you on that one! pretty danged cool, I wonder if you can really land a heli in that contraption. Taking off should be easy, just nail it and figure it out in the air... how much are they?

betapilot -> RE: Shark/Hone/Eagle tuner shop (4/27/2008 6:54:11 AM)

$375.00, wow
