Here in Houston, they run 5700 and 7700kV motors on 3S lipos. The 7700kV pulled 183A peak from a 3s Lipo in a rail with a 1.5 rollout I believe. So think about in what batteries you will invest in before making a decision on motor choice.

if you are strickly drag racing with a real drag chassis, use the mamba max 5700 with 6 cell lipo or the 7700 with 4 cell lipo. the lipo packs should have a mah rating of 2000-2500. these setups WILL run over 100mph.

i think the 5700 would be a little better so you can put more power through it...

so is it safe to run 4s on a 7700? because on castle''s website it says that the 6900 and the 7700 shoudn''t be run on 3 cells

I wouldn''t do it with the higher kv castle motors. You won''t be running at peak performance with stacked voltage like that and most likely run hot and risk thermal damage, battery issues and of course a dead motor. I would go low in KV if you plan on running 4s and higher. If you want to run 5 & 6s lipos you should be looking at other motors like Six pole motors can handle the voltage easily (Hacker, Feigae, Neu etc).

I was running a 3s on my 9200kv in my touring car and it sounded like I was hitting the limiter all day and the heat was well over 200f and needed to be shut down (actually fried a Velineon esc with this set-up). I switched to a 7cell 5000mah nimh and the car is way more cooler, efficient, and faster. I only run 4,5,6s lipos on motors that can handle those specs.

well the current record holder in the extreme class is using a 7700 and 4 cell lipo. alot of guys are running this combo to follow the leader. the 5700/6 cell deal will run with the 7700 all day but if you can get the power to the ground the whole track it may just be the new record holder! you see the 7700 is quick but it''s a top end combo where as the 5700 is all torque and will motivate the car very quickly! remember drag racing is from point a to point b from a dead stop so the car needs to get motivated as quickly as possible to put up the best numbers. again, these setups are for real drag cars like grand motorsports, team walbern, litespeed, etc...

The torque of low kv motors can be overcome by gearing up.

Yep, I am a fan of low KV, high voltage, gearing high. But, I think this is an obvious choice!
