Here is a clip of the Silver final yesterday.
Great weather and great competition with 41 pilots total entered and Richard Verano showed up only to lose his plane to one of the three mid-airs we experienced that day. His smile never quit even after stripping out his wreck.

Thanks Jimmy.

Cmon Skids admit it,

The only reason you want me in Gold is to try and run interference on that two stroke powered Pumpkin that was running after you.

Just kidding Mark! [:D]

And here I thought you were just toying with him. [X(]

Here is a write up from the SAMs newsletter by one of the event CD's

BIG KAHUNA CLASSIC
The Big Kahuna Classic once again kicked off the S.A.M. event calendar for 2008. This was the 8th year that John Bigwood and I have combined our efforts to put on a S.A.M. Warbird race, and this year’s was the biggest yet. Forty pilots eagerly entered the race, all hoping to be the best of the best in warbird racing. This year we saw a lot of new comers to the race, all eager to get their planes going fast and turning left. The S.A.M. members showed up and volunteered in force to make such a large event happen, and I would like to thank each and every one for their tireless efforts. As I have said before, without you this race would not happen. In addition, this year we had many sponsors step up to help with the raffle, workers raffle, and pilot prizes. Richard Verano at YS Parts and Service once again has graciously offered a half-off gift certificate for a YS engine to the winner of each bracket at every race. Steve at Airborne Models donated two half-off gift certificates for any World Model kit, and numerous items for our workers raffle. Chet and Terri at RC Country Hobbies generously donated five $20 gift certificates and four gallons of Wildcat fuel to our workers raffle. Kyosho Models also donated two of their war bird kits (a Spitfire and a P-40), one of which was raffled off at the Big Kahuna race, and one will be raffled at nthe Presidents Cup. Ron Lawson and Chance Harris again donated four gift certificates from Downtown Hobbies for our workers raffle. Jim (Skids) Smith, out of his own pocket, donated RC Country gift certificates for the workers raffle. Mac’s Products donated gift certificates for their fine exhaust systems. Steve Overton also donated landing gear tools he manufactures for the raffle kit and for the workers raffle. These generous donations and support of our S.A.M. Warbird series make such a difference to the club volunteers and pilots, and each of us should support these fine companies with all our RC needs. I personally would like to extend a personal thank you to all the sponsors for your continued support of the S.A.M. club events throughout all these years. In addition, we also got a CD from Eric Novikoff with some fine pictures that I will try to get put onto the website.
This year we had nine Bronze racers, nineteen Silver Racers, and twelve Gold racers entered in the Big Kahuna Classic. The morning started off cool, with all racers anticipating some hot racing. The first round started with a few bracket breakouts and the assorted did not start and did not finish, as the pilots settled in for a long day of racing. As the day warmed up, the pace of the racing did also, and by the third round we were starting to see more bracket breakouts. Of course there were a few mid airs and some dumb thumbs by some pilots as the action got furious. The fourth round, the trophy round, ended up deciding the finishing places for all of the brackets, with some great racing in each bracket trophy race. The bracket finishes were as follows:
BRONZE
1ST Tom Richardi, 2nd Kerry Lemos, 3rd Ron Pate
SILVER
1st Tom Richardi, 2nd Bob Finkbohner, 3rd Ken Knowles
GOLD
1st Dan Hughes, 2nd Jerry Votaw, 3rd Ron Lawson

John and I would like to thank all the pilots entered this year for making this race the best attended Big Kahuna Classic yet, and hope to see you all next year. We also want to express our gratitude to the S.A.M. volunteer workers who help us at all the events, and of course our sponsors who generously donate their products to the events.
I hope to see you all at the President’s Cup Warbird race on May 18, 2008, and until then turn left and go fast!!!!
…Jerry V.
