Is the JPO President putting on an event in which the "Event flyer" depicts a jet aircraft that probably does not comply with current AMA requirements [I do not know this as fact but the brochure says no MAX Weight] or has the AMA established a format that can allow such an event?

Do not mis-interpt this post as I am all for this type of event but I would be concerned about the adverse effect it may have on all Jet Modelers who are represented to AMA by the JPO? I would hope this issue has been dealt with in advance by Frank, JPO, & the AMA.

This is a NON-AMA event I am sure. The topic has been discussed many times.

Sadly, it doesn't matter that the event is not AMA sanctioned - as of last November the AMA requires that the rules still apply at ALL times since the AMA refuses to give us any "opt out" provision. Don't know if anything has changed since then, but I hope it has.

[Edit]: Just to clarify - the above comment about AMA rules applies only to AMA members. Thus, if e.g. Ali is not an AMA member then the AMA rules obviously don't apply to him flying his big Globemaster or whatever that monster is

Don't you have to present some sort of "self insurance" (i.e. "homeowners" general liability) to participate in this event?

Sorry in advance if I have misspoken.

According to my "sources" this event has NOTHING to do with the AMA, It is being run as a full scale airshow this includes full scale insurance and indemnity coverage. Frank has checked the alignment of the avian waterfowl on this one. Scott

You Guys are missing my point here!!

In prior and now current discussion the "JPO President" was not the "event coordinator!!'' If the AMA is going to take it''s "Normal" dim view of this type of event then it stands to reason that it could "DAMPEN" future attempts by future JPO officers in future negotations.
If this is something that Frank has discussed with the AMA & other JPO officers and while they may not sanction the event, if they don''t have any "Heart Ache" over I think it''s great. The question is "has the above occured?"

I don''t see how something like this could happen if the AMA was involved. The only possible way I can think of them being involved is if all the participants have the "Experimental" ratings on their aircraft. But like Scotty says above the AMA doesnt seem to be involved.

Maybe Frank will chime in on the thread and answer some of the questions.

Interesting, isn''t this the same category of event that Eddie Weeks tried to put on? (outside AMA jurisdiction) As I recall the JPO president of the time made the effort to stifle the event. And was successful.

As I see it (no inside info on any of this, pure speculation)
1-A number of the planes will be from EU, No ama issues there
2-Have Ali fly all of them
3-at thirty five dry many planes qualify , any UB, Lightning, F100 any airworld kit, etc.
4-The exhibit/waiver planes already have cleared AMA (Mibo a-10 etc)
5-This is not just for turbines-mostly for wood swingers as I see it. There are ALOT of them that fit
6-Use a non-ama pilot- there are many very qualified non ama pilots out there
Lets see what happens
Been pretty quiet around here lets spice it up.
Scott

I like the way you think Scott ! Ali could be a very busy man though.

Hopefully Frank has used some of his charm on the AMA to find some way of getting them to lift their rather ludicrous "no opt-out" policy. That would be the ultimate solution IMO, as I''d love to see events like this become sorta commonplace here in the US.

Finally, someone brings a new and exciting aspect to our hobby.

PLEASE support efforts like this and make the AMA understand that we do not need any more rules and regulations. Last time I checked, this was a hobby and something we do to have fun. We don''t need a bunch of pencil pushers and supporters of "their version of that is safe" to block this effort.

Take a look a La Ferte Alais... Great event for BIG planes. About time we get something like that in the US. After all, we are known for having everyhing bigger here.

Monster? When you get to see it fly you will realise it is a thing of beauty. Handles like a p u s s ycat but sounds awesome.

Cheers

Simon.
