You could mark the wing tips and tape a string to one side, pull tight and line it up with the other side. and mark the wings at the side of the fuse. just an idea

Got it thanks... What size spinner would look the best on this thing?  Bignuts it looks like you are a fan of the twisted pair.  I know the hitec servos come with it but it appears your servo extensions are to.  Also, it doesn't look like you are running the stock gas tank.   Does one mount the gas tank on the CG to minimize the change as the tank empties?  Would make sense.   Also, is it okay to mount my reciever battery and ignition battery in the motor box.  With the batteries in the box it seems to balance nicely on the wing tube.   I am real happy with how my cowl cuts came out.  The thing is starting to look good.

I used a 3 inch spinner but will use a 3 1/2 this time. the 3 inch looked a little small.  Will post some more pics later after i get some more batteries for the camera.  LOL  MIne is finished.  I maidened on saturday.  After i took off to trim it out.  It took 1 click of up trim on elevator and 1 click of right aileron and it flew straight like it was on rails.  with os 160 and 17-8 xoar prop, this things was hauling azz around the pattern.  Well after the trim, i got nervous and my hands starting shaking so bad, there was no way i could land it.  LOL  I called in a buddy that was standing by and he took over the sticks.  oh it too funny that i got that nervous without really feeling nervous.  mind wasn't scared just couldn't stop the hands from shaking.  hahahahahha.   All in all, this is one good flying plane.  my buddy ranged it out good to.  lot's of inverted stuff and straight up and down pulls with ease and precision.  Pics are coming

Great to hear good things about its flight characteristics.  I think I will have someone buddy box in.  This is my first gasser and plane of this size.  I'm not worried about flying it...just getting it back on the ground in one piece.   Getting closer to being done.  Difficult with kiddies in the house.   Cowl is finished, Ailerons are done,  gas lines ran.   Just waiting for my props.

Okay got the motor running.  I had to wait for my props.   Started realatively easy.   One of the guys really stressed the importance of secureing every thing in the fuse.  Now I know why.  That little gas engine shakes the sxxx out of the plane.  And I gues that is normal for a gas engine.  Even my control linkages for the elevetor vibrated out of their clevis.

Almost finished.  I'm tail heavy though.  I am on 72 mhz...so I am told that the reciever/ battery should be 12 inches from the ignition and wiring.  With my reciever battery under the tank and against the firewall I am balancing on the forward CG mark with an empty tank.  My transmitter is 2.4 capable... I am be trying to get by with out droping the 180 bucks.

I ordered my first Specktrum reciever.   That will solve the CG issue. I will be able to mount the reciever pack where it needs to be.  I am going to madian with CG cm forward of the reccomended 8.5.  That should keep it tame.  Then adjust it from their.  I like just a touch of up elevetor inverted.  Hopefully I will have some adjustablity with the reciever pack.  I should be able to move it from the firewall and then fore on top of that basket to the elevetor servo elevation mount (what ever it is called).   Cowl is mounted.  I ordered the Dubro #999's.  They are a new plastic cowl mounting bracket they came out with awhile back.  I got the ones for a .90 size plane.  They are way to big I think.  They have two sizes and I should have put the smaller ones in.  They are very obvious.  I am going to paint the cap head screws that they came with.   Hopefully they won't be so obvious then.  But, should be ready to maiden.  Oh yes... I need to check the control throws yet.  I have the aeroworks throw meter.  I haven't be happy with that thing though.  Its heavy and causes alot of buzzing of the servos.  I am sure it works fine on the big birds.  The great planes throw meter would probably be better.  It doesn't attach to the control surface.  I attaches to the stabilizer or the wing itself.  Makes sense.   I have ran about a full tank through it so far.  I switched to the highest octane at the pump and it is starting much easier.   A few spins with the choke closed or until it fires and open choke with half throttle is starts on the third spin just about every time.  I am still using a 30:1 mix.  And it is running pretty rich.  At least I think it is by the all the oil it is spitting out. .  I'm rambling... I'm out.

A month ago I replaced the Saito 180 with a Zenoah 26 (magneto type). I am using a APC 17X6 prop and the plane seems to like that combo. I cannot tell much difference between the Saito and the Zenoah in power. I had to change the stabilizer wing tube with a solid steel one but the added weight does not seem to have any effect on the flying. So far very impressed with the combo and little by little will be changing my planes to gas. I am still on my first gallon of gas and have flown about 20 times,by now I would have used more than a gallon of nitro. Overall I am very impressed with the Seagull anf for the money it cant be beat. I hope Horizon comes out with a Yak or Edge in the 120 size.

Yeah Yeah! LOL I'm workin on it. I got the spinner on. I installed the great planes 3" spinner. Looks to big though. Oh well. I need to reroute my vent line. I had it circled in the cowl to prevent inverted leakage. I didn't work. I inverted it to test inverted CG and when I brought it up right the fuel that was in the line leaked out on to my bench.
Question: How should it be looped. Should the loop be on the top of the tank so the fuel can flow back in the tank. Or on the side. The only picture I have seen after searching forever was of the Carden Yak build on the Carden site. The guy had it looped on the side of the tank. Another thing when I pulled the tank back the plug popped right out. Thats not okay. Next thing I noticed was the clunk line was as stiff as a I don't know what. Thats not okay either. Anyway I should have it in the air by snow fall.

Bump

Another extra 260 180 plane sold. I saw Lou1947's and had to have one its great to see one and ask someone elses experience with theirs. Got a lot of great tips like put a solid plate under the 2piece landing gear. And solid steel horizontal stab tube to balance out the weight of the gasser. And a lot more I cant wait to get this thing in the air waiting for parts is killing me Gonna try the hs485's on 6V 90oz of torque should do for pattern flying. Sorry just ranting but after flying my edge 540 with saito 100 the 260 180 as a gasser just seemed too cool.

Seagull Extra 260 180 RX packs What are you guy's running?

I ask cause I have 2 packs 6V 2300mah AAcell nimh's from a helicopter. I would like to use them in the extra I plan on buying the HS485HB's so six of them and the RX. All I can find is it states use at least a 1100mah but doesn't state the size. I ass-u-me the c cell will handle the servo load better.

Although I just plan to make a nice sport flyer NO 3d plane I would like to know where do you draw the line on the cell size of RX packs?

Well I finally got the bird in the air sort of. We had difficulty getting the MLD 28 running properly thou. First, what a pain to get at the adjustment screws with the cowl on. So, that was removed. Engine was tuned. Took off and made my turn to the down wind leg and dead sticked in. Had to bank back hard to get lined up with the run way. Ballooned stalled and landed hard on the gear. No damage. No major tip stall it just mushed forward.

Thought we would try again and the engine wouldn't say anything. Pulled the plug and no sparkage. Called it a day. So... maiden flight a success. I would say yes. I got it back on the ground in one piece. It just may have a few maiden flights.

Tonight I attempted to trace back my ignition problem.
Checked the plug first - it was fine. I checked the power lead to the ignition and it read proper voltage.
Next I removed the ignition to inspect it. Looks strange - noticed that the writing on it has some discoloration. Not sure it it is from the foam rubbing or what Does an ignition get hot if its not working properly. Strange looking though. Plugged the power lead back in and I had spark. Humm. Both the power wire from the receiver and the ignition wire were zip tied in the same place. So both leads were wrapped on top of each other. I don't know it that might have been the cause.
I put things back together and secured the power lead away from the receiver power lead. Primed and it started on the second flip. Idled ruff. Sounds like its real rich now and it wouldn't spin up any faster without bogging. I didn't let it run long. It's probably fuel soaked from trying to start it earlier today. Maybe not.

What is everybody using for control throws? The throws in the manual seem a bit on the low side.

They did seem low to me until my maiden flight even with the forward cg. On take off i pulled back the stick at 35% and wooow. I reduced them from the recommended since and cranked the expo 65%. My bird is p-retty loose in the tail feathers.

I have had many sucessful flights on mine with the OS 160. it starts with a couple of flips after short prime with pump. I plan on flying Imac so i reduced the throw to elev-13degrees, ailerons - 20degrees, a bit much, rudder is 30 degrees. Plane flys really smooth at those throws. on high rate, which is what i use to land. the plane is a beast to handle so all flying will be done on low.

Brett I hope you decreased the throws not increased the throws. Not being used this heavy of a plane I stalled out the main wing banking today and that was on my low rate settings. I was turning back into the upwind leg in 12mph winds. But, still. But if high alpha is your thing...that's another story. I want to observe the wing drop on stall before I start doing that. It did just mush forward today with out any one side tip stall. The wind was crazy today thou.

so the MLD28 isnt enough for the 180.I am about to plunge into my seagull extra and was going to use my satio 180 but have been flying it on another plane and wanted a 26 cc gasser and narrowed it down to a G26 or the MLD28. the MLD is alot lighter but dont much about its output.I have a G23 thats been flying my 1/4 scale L4 and it runs very nice so a G26 just made sense but I want to keep the extra lightly loaded.

yeah what i thought. we have a guy at my field that has the mld 28 on a 1/4scale yak that is 2 lbs lighter than the extra and it just runs out of juice on an upline vertical, so i am waiting on the 30cc motors to come out and stuck with this stubborn starting os 160 which has more than enough power to go out of sight vertical
