Hey everyone, I was looking for a place that would sell the 1.5mm x 5mm coarse thread screw that holds the ball link to the mixer arm on the CNC bell hiller mod for the axe cp. Mid flight one of the links came off and caused a pretty severe crash.

I sent an email to Helimax and they told me that even they didnt have it available. ive tried some hardware stores near but havent tried any LHS yet.

ive also searched online to no avail.

Any suggestions?

tried all LHS and even specialty stores that sell metric screws, even they didnt have it.

Its frustrating and disappointing that there would be no spare parts available even from the manufacturer for a product that they sell and know can break.

I have had the same problem. I also looked eveywhere with no avail. If someone finds the screw and the little brass bushing it goes through please post it.
Thanks Dave

Hi fellas,

I''m not sure this is gonna help you much, but try looking at this site. http://www.microfasteners.com/ They have some that are close to what your looking for, but not exact. They have a few that are 1.6mm x .35 x 6mm. I don''t know the tolerances for the bell-hiller as I don''t have one, but if your real careful you could probably grind one of these down and make it work, You also didn''t mention what kind of head was on the fastner. I''m assuming its a alan key head. If you got one like this to work, I would also but a small dab of locktite on it for a little insurance. I had to do something simular to the tailrotor.

Maybe someone can help chime in on this too.

Man, that sucks.

Guys,
We are going to stock a screw kit that includes the bushings. Should be in stock Mid May. Until then I have no idea where to get the screws at this time. If your comfortable with a Cutoff tool the ball link screws for the CNC parts is the same thread but to long. I hope that this may help get you back in the air.
Thanks,
Jason

Welll thats a d@$% shame!!! The same thing happened to me except i was lucky enough to be able to find the screws. Hey Jason, you guys need to add 1 direction to the install manual on the bell-hiller. "REMOVE ALL FASTENERS AND REINSTALL USING THREAD LOCKER".. I thought my instance was a fluke since it fell off mid-flight but apparently this is a problem from the factory. How about a free hardware kit to all those that have already bought the upgrade??????

Brian1280,
Thanks for your input. For the record there is an instruction sheet included with the kits saying to thread lock all critical fasteners. Sorry that this replacement screw kit slipped thourgh the cracks. It has been addressed thanks to user input. Now onto getting more upgrades finished up. What all the needed repair parts to come along with them!
Jason

i have those screws, length and thread seem to be fine, but the width is off, its a 2mm width instead of the 1.5mm width. I bought them from tower hobbies thinking they could work but i got pwned.

The screw and ball link combo popped off mid flight about 6 feet in a hover, the chain reaction caused it to come crashing down, the combination of the headspeed and loose flying arms and destroyed all three servo arms, one servo, BENT the cnc microheli flybar i just installed, AND BENT the cnc center hub, i bet everything wouldve flew apart if it was just plastic. luckily i was able to save the flybar, but the center hub was done, it was causing rediculous amounts of vibration in the entire heli.

Here you go...I found a suitable replacement for all of our axe cp bell hiller woes...first let me tell you waht yo already know...It's sucks big time when that little 1.5 x 5mm screw lets go in flight...what a mess.
Down to buisness....I ordered a couple sets of ball studs from HeliDirect.com, they have tons of ball studs/links to chose from. I purchased a couple sets of MH-021AL, Hard Aircraft Aluminum machined
High precision balls within tolerance +/-0.005mm
Ball diameter: 3.85mm, Thread: 0-80 (OD=1.50mm), Thread Length: 1.70mm
They even include the 1mm wrench.

You may want to order a link sizer as these are a bit bigger than the standard 3.5mm on the Axe.
I replaced all four balls on my bell hiller and sized up the links....flys like a dream. I have also upgraded to all cnc parts on the rotor head, got those from MicroHeli.com...less expensive than the helimax aluminum parts.

Add another screw lost in flight and severe crash to this growing list. Wiped out a set of blades main and tail on second flight with Bell Hiller upgrade. Wish I had seen this post before I flew the heli. ouch

One more small detail....remember to clean the screws and thread really well before adding your threadlocking compound...won't hold well if the threads are oily or dirty...Common sense isn't that common

Hey, after looking at one of the above posts where someone used a different set of screws/ball ends, trying to find thread pitch charts, and not finding a 1.5mm screw as a standard size anywhere in engineering documentation, I ran some quick calculations, it looks like a #0-80 standard screw should be eerily close to a metric 1.5 coarse thread screw. I don't have the bell-hiller kit, so I can't try it. The 0-80 screw is probably so close it would work. If anyone has these screws and the bell-hiller kit, it shouldn't take too long to test it out.

the good news is that if it's close enough to work, #0-80 screws are much easier to find. I hope that might help out someone here.....
