If no one has told you yet, keep the tail as light as possible... Even to the point of possibly removing some of the balsa sheeting... Sheet it, then route out the sheeting between the braces...

My Hybrid weighed 15 lbs 12 oz, but was so tail-heavy that I had to add close to 1 lb in the nose to get it close to balancing... Removing weight from the TE of each wing would help too...

My first one weighed 16lb 10oz and flew like a dream. Hovered like no other plane i have ever flown. The weight is not an issue with this plane because of the big wing.

Build update: I have installed the fire wall and drilled it out for the engine i am using i have added in 2 1/2 degrees of right thrust. I have also built and glued the turdle deck in place. Now i need to test fit my engine and make the cut outs for the muffler. Then on to the sheeting the nose and building the canopy.

What engine was this with? header/can or muffler? I am just getting all the stuff together to build mine.

funny you mention this....... my edge weighs the same as yours (15lb 12oz) and i haven't added any weight in the front.
i have a DA50 up front and 3 2300mA nimh batteries and all of them are in the front of the wing tube. even the stand offs are the smallest possible.
the plane is all stock

Mine also balanced perfectly. I am running a DA 50 with a cannister. No Spinner. 1 li-ion behind the firewall and 1 just in front of the gas tank.

Mine has a DA-50 with 2 1/2" standoffs, Pitts style muffler and ever a True Turn spinner... It has #2 2300mah A123 packs mounted as far forward as possible in the fuse, right behind the firewall... I didn't build mine, but bought it from a guy in Louisiana who built it, flew it 4 times, didn't like it and sold it here on RCU... When I got it RTF, the CG was 4 1/2" behind the wing tube... Even after adding a pound to the nose the CG is still 2 1/2" behind the tube... I can fly it there... Love the airplane... Not sure, but if you guys are getting them to balance without removing tail weight, then the fella that built mine must have used cement instead of CA when building the tail...

Torqued-up. Yeah, something wasn't right. Like I said. Mine balanced spot on and that's with a light wooden prop and no spinner.

mine balanced right in the middle of the wing tube which is toward the front range according to the plans but inverted it climbs a bit. I don't see how it would fly at all 2.5" past the wing tube ???

Boy is it hard to build a plane in the spring or summer! I have not got alot done. I'm almost finished with the fuse all i have left to do is drill and tap the holes for the landing gear and then build the verticle stab and rudder. Here are some picture of what i have so far.

Ihave the front sides built and the top. I have the engine fitted and all the cut outs made.

I built a tunnel to direct air flow directly over the engine head and i hav installed the throttle servo and made the linkage for it. I have also installed the Rudder servo and i went ahead and installed the cables on the the rudder servo.

craigteffe,
What size standoffs are you using to mount the DL; or what would you recommend? I have to order some new ones for the DL since the ones that came with it were "borrowed" for my Brillelli 26 installation.

I am using the standoffs that come with the DL, I think they are 2 11/16 inches long. My Hub sticks out past the nose about 3/8 to 1/2 inch.

Next on the build is the stab and elevator. I made a change here i added balsa to the trailing edge of the stab so i would not drill thru a hardwood support that runs the length of the stab. here are some more pictures of my progress on the stab.

On the XPS issue I had four lock outs in the first flight, definate brown trouser moments, our site is prone to interferance and XPS does not work on my site, even on the ground when moved to the interferance zone, which is unfortunatly outside the pit area and only became apparant in the air after a succesfull range check in the pit area, Luck was with me and I managed to land without damage.

In reply to the XPS issue i have flown with them in two other planes and no issues what so ever, I think my issues were with my battery, regulator or switch.
